Hello, we have an older A200 which is out of service, we had it off for like 6 Month and after commissioning it again, 6 SSDs failed within short notice (2 Hours). Since the Device was on "Burn-In" we lost no Data, replaced the broken SSDs and now we have following situation: Controller 1 boots - did the Clean Disk procedure, get trough Basic Setup and then it prompts to go the web interface to proceed, but the interface does not show up. Controller 2 just boot loops in normal mode, but boots into maintance mode. we did the disk wipe procedure here too, but it didnt help. the device runs on 9 ..read more

CIFS file restore software

Is anyone aware of a good file recovery software that can act as a simple front end for level 1 support staff to use to recover ONTAP cifs files and folders? Im not looking to restore or clone volumes, just something that does what I already do where I would browse to the root of a production SVM and then drill to the volume/folder I want to recover the file and then go into 'previous versions' to get a copy of that file. If there was a gui front end that could do this safely so that I could hand over this responsibility to level 1 support teams that would be great. submitted by /u/joshbisho ..read more

Upgrading 9.7P22 to 9.12.1 directly?

I have a pair of clusters running 9.7P22. The primary cluster is 4x nodes with CN1610 switches and the secondary DR cluster is just 2 nodes no switches. I'd like to upgrade the DR cluster to 9.12.1P11 and assuming no issues next step would be the production cluster. The CN1610 looks like there is no support past 9.12.1 and these clusters/nodes should be being replaced later this year probably with some C250s. I'm reading this https://docs.netapp.com/us-en/ontap/data-protection/compatible-ontap-versions-snapmirror-concept.html#unified-replication-relationships And I've used "snapmirror show" t ..read more

Hi all we are in the midst of migrating our CIFS data from our current FAS2650 to our new cluster, C250, we are testing to see if the migration goes all right but im having trouble figuring our how to make sure all the data have been migrated by looking at the source and destinations volume data size and the amount of files within it. is there such way to check on netapp or is there any easy way to go about what im trying to achieve? TIA submitted by /u/sysneeb [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

OnTap Linux NTFS Volume Best Practices for Mounting

Hi all - We have an environment where storage needs to be shared between windows and Linux, so an NTFS filesystem is the way that we need to go. This works fine for us to mount into our windows server, but we've been having some challenges getting things to work properly on our Linux server. The Linux server is a multi-user application environment (Posit Workbench). Users can be logged in concurrently to their sessions, so ideally the share mounts on boot and everything is ready when they log in. The server, OnTap environment, and Windows RDPs are all domain joined (all living in AWS, using ..read more

Automating Netapp Processes using Python

Anyone here have experience using their coding skills to automate some everyday tasks that your job has you do in the Netapp system? For example, I had the idea of using python to automate volume decommissions, (breaking snapmirrors, volume renaming, etc) but since I'm by no means a software engineer I wasn't sure if this could be done safely in a way that is compatible with Netapp's software. Anyone done something similar in the past? submitted by /u/averyycuriousman [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Reformat drives in Ontap to 520 Byte sector size

Hello, I bought from ebay some X356A-R6 (Toshiba PX05SRB384). When I try to use them in a AFF A220 lab system I get: Apr 15 06:33:53 [localhost:disk.init.badSectorSize:error]: Disk 0b.00.1 has an unexpected sector size (512 bytes) and cannot be used. Apr 15 06:33:53 [localhost:disk.init.failure.error:error]: Drive 0b.00.1 failed initialization due to error 0, sense code(0 0 0 0). According to HWU the X356A-R6 is supported, however when I google for PX05SRB384 I don't see a place that mentions sector size 520 bytes which is necessary for BCS checksums. Is the drive supported in an AFF A220? Is ..read more

Krbtgt password reset on CIFS SVM Active Directory domain?

I have a domain joined CIFS SVM on ONTAP 9.2 P22. Does anyone know if there is anything specific to ONTAP that I would need to check before doing a krbtgt password reset? I know not to do it twice in rapid succession and for those that double as Windows sysadmins I'm planning on using the script here. https://github.com/zjorz/Public-AD-Scripts/blob/master/Reset-KrbTgt-Password-For-RWDCs-And-RODCs.ps1 Thanks :) submitted by /u/rich2778 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
