Seasoned Chinese Leaves 배추된장무침 Can I just start this post by saying YUM! Seasoned Chinese Leaves is one of my favourite banchans (side dishes). So easy, healthy and delicious, it takes less than 10 minutes to make and is vegan too. Nice. Watch how to make Seasoned Chinese Leaves (2m 32s) Seasoned Chinese Leaves have a savoury sweet and spicy, umami taste. It reminds me of my grandmother. She often cooked this side dish and it never disappointed me. I miss her. She was a wonderful Nanny. This side dish takes me right back to sitting in the courtyard of my grandmother’s house as a little g ..read more

SALTAIRE HOLISTIC HEALTH FAIR

A lovely festival in the model Victorian village of Saltaire, just outside of Bradford.   I’d never been to Saltaire or Bradford for that matter before we went to this health fair. It’s not too long a drive from my house but nevertheless, we got up and set off early.  We were attending the festival because of my Korean street food business, Love Kimchi. We got to Victoria Hall in good time and found a decent enough parking space down a back road so we could unload all of our equipment. Before we set up, we had a quick talk to Steph, the organiser, and she showed us where we would ..read more

ISTANBUL RESTAURANT REVIEW
Gilded Gingerbread

I have to admit I have a soft spot for the Curry Mile in Manchester. Over the years, we have tried a lot of the restaurants and takeaways on the strip and we have whittled the list down to a handful of our favourites. Istanbul is one of them. Located at the far end of the Curry Mile, a couple of doors down from Baskin Robbins (my kids favourite shop in the whole world), this unassuming restaurant is simply superb. As with many of the restaurants in this area, it has the look of a takeaway, but it also has plenty of seating throughout the three floors. The ground floor has booth seating and ..read more

Follow my blog with Bloglovin Last week my three year old son had his first Sports Day. It was a super cute afternoon organised by his nursery.  He has been attending the school for about four months now and has settled in nicely and has made some new friends. The event was split into five different activities. When my husband and I arrived at the school, they had already divided the children into smaller groups and they were all waiting in the shade of a large tree in the playground.  They all looked gorgeous with their sun hats and water bottles. After a quick explanation of the a ..read more

A Family Day Out To The Steam On The Dock Festival In Liverpool I have to say that this wouldn’t be my first choice for a day out but the third annual Steam On The Dock Festival in Liverpool proved me wrong and we all had a fun time at the Albert Dock. It is lovely to see how far Liverpool has come in the last 18 years.  When I first visited way back in 2000, I was struck by how much dereliction there was.  Liverpool had been in decline since the end of the second world war and although Liverpudlians (or Scousers) were still very proud of their city it is safe to say that nobody el ..read more

Baltic Market Farmers Market Review If you’ve never been to Baltic Market before then you are missing a treat. Situated in the old Cains Brewery building, Liverpool’s first Street Food market has something for everyone.     We first visited Baltic Market a month ago having heard goods things from my husband’s work colleague. My sister was visiting with her husband and two children, it was a lovely sunny Sunday, so we decided to go to Liverpool for some lunch. We arrived just after 1pm and it was already packed. It was hard to find a table for eight of us but after standing around ..read more

Hoddeok, Sweet Korean Pancakes with brown sugar, mixed nuts and cinnamon. OMG! They’re as good as they sound! One of the most popular street foods in Korea never fails to impress. And they’re vegan too! Koreans love street food. Throw a stone in Korea and you will hit ten street food stalls. Just kidding. More like seven or eight. One of the best things about shopping in Korea is that after a hard day trying on shoes, you are never far away from some delicious treats to keep you going. Here’s just a few: Spicy Rice Cakes/ Ddeokbokki (떡볶이) Fish Cakes/ Odeng/Uhmook (오뎅/어묵)   Fri ..read more

FAMILY GETAWAY TO BUTLINS SKEGNESS – A REVIEW

Butlins Skegness Review I’ve been in need of a holiday for quite a while (who isn’t?) so I made an executive decision to book a short break somewhere. My son’s third birthday was coming up so I decided to find somewhere not too far away that we could all enjoy.  After a bit of looking, I booked a long weekend at Butlins in Skegness! Butlins Waterslides Now, I know that Butlins has a bit of an image problem in the UK. It has a reputation for being old fashioned and a bit grubby but they are trying hard to shake off that image. It can’t compete with the likes of Centre Parcs, but that rea ..read more

Caramel and Coffee Caramel Peanuts I’ve been thinking a lot about Korea lately.  It’s been quite a while since I was last there and I find myself daydreaming about all the the things I miss from back home. I decided to make a list of all my favourite food that I can’t readily get in the UK with the intention of seeking them out or making them myself. At the top of my snack list is Coffee Caramel Peanuts. Watch How to Make my Caramel and Coffee Caramel Roasted Peanuts I have to admit that I need coffee in my life. And not just any old coffee. It has to be good quality and very strong. I a ..read more
