Great Britain arrived in Latvia today ahead of this weekend’s Under-16 Men’s Riga Hockey Cup. The prestigious European tournament sees 14 teams split into two groups. Group games take place on Friday and Saturday before placement matches on Sunday. Great Britain came from behind to beat Croatia 4-2 in their second game at the men’s Under-18s World Championship Division II Group A in Sosnowiec, Poland. GB went ahead thanks to strong work from Bailey Yates behind the net who fed Josh Crawley to beat Niksa Slade from close-range (9:19). Croatia equalised just 20 seconds later as Lovro Kurjakovic forced a turnover and scored on a breakaway (9:39), while Patrik Marojevic did the same and broke clear to put his side ahead at the first intermission (17:5o). Great Britain were beaten 6-4 by top seeds Poland in a thrilling opening game at the men’s Under-18s World Championship Division II Group A in Sosnowiec. GB, who were 3-0 down at the end of the first period, tied the game at 3-3 and 4-4 before two late Poland goals, including an empty-netter, secured the hosts the points. The captaincy team has been named for Great Britain’s campaign at the men’s Under-18 World Championship Division II Group A in Poland. Archie Salisbury will captain the side with assistants Sebastian Mohr and Owen Bruton appointed as alternate captains. Sunday will go down in history as the UK held the world’s first professional IIHF three-on-three tournament. The four-team competition, which included professional players, took place at The Ozone in Bracknell in association with Intermotor. The IIHF chose the UK for the event and the three-on-three format is one they hope to take to the Winter Olympics. It’s already been played at the past two Youth Olympics with GB taking part earlier this year in Gangwon, Korea and the IIHF’s long-term plan is to bring three-on-three hockey to the 2030 Winter Olympics in France. Great Britain are busy preparing for next week’s men’s Under-18 World Championship Division II Group A in Poland. The team arrived at their base in Sosnowiec on Thursday and have been having two practices a day ahead of Wednesday’s opening game of the tournament against hosts Poland. Hull Seahawks forward Rhys Edwards replaces Gregor Mills in the squad who has taken-up a career opportunity that means he will be missing for the duration of the tournament. The curtain came down on the 2024 Women’s World Championship Division 1 Group B on Saturday night, Great Britain were edged out 3-2 by Latvia in the final game. Ice Hockey UK TV presented in association with Intermotor has the goals from the game as well as reaction from coach Mike Clancy and players Ellie Patrick, Aimee Headland and Beth Hill. Great Britain missed out on a medal at the Division 1 Group B tournament in Riga, going down 3-2 to the host nation in a thrilling encounter. GB and Latvia went into the game tied on 7 points, each looking to eclipse Italy (9 points) and take a silver medal. Slovakia had earlier taken gold with four wins from their five games.
