Have the opportunity in lab to study any toxicant, want to choose the one that will bring in the most money. Edit: To clarify I am well funded already and have a particular paradigm in mind. I would like to use a new toxicant in this paradigm for preliminary data for a grant. submitted by /u/tamponinja [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Question for Forensic Toxicologists - Drug related

Hi all, I currently work as a Drug Chemist in a crime laboratory and work with street drugs on a near daily basis. Well I am switching jobs and the new job requires a drug test prior to starting. I do always wear gloves, and we have hepta filter hoods and fume hoods we work in, as well as lab coats. Typical PPE. I am wondering if I will have any issues passing said drug test? Or any advice on the situation? If this isn't the correct subreddit if someone could point me in the right direction it would be appreciated. TIA! submitted by /u/_enOegnartS [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Toxicology career in the US

Hi. I was wondering if there will be career opportunities for me should I apply for a PhD in toxicology (currently eyeing the toxicology program in Texas A&M university). As a background, I am a non-US citizen who has a masters in biochemistry and almost 8 years working in the government (pesticide regulatory approval). I want to specialize in the toxicology field as I have been enjoying it, however since there are no such programs catering in my country, I would have to go abroad. The catch is I will have to resign at work since a 5 year-leave is not allowed. I am currently weighing my o ..read more

Few questions for Careers/PHD in toxicology

I will soon be applying to Ph.D. programs in toxicology soon. I'm currently at a crossroads in terms of what branch of toxicology I would truly like to explore. Throughout my undergraduate studies, I have done research within the field of environmental toxicology, which I have enjoyed and have a genuine interest in. I joined this field with the intention of pursuing a Ph.D. in Aquatic toxicology, but after talking to faculty and looking online, funding is sparse, and I would be better off sticking to environmental research. The other field I've looked at is the clinical toxicology field, but ..read more

Statement of Purpose for graduate programs Hello to anyone reading this! I am an organic chemist looking to leverage my experience in preclinical research to transition into a career in toxicology in the drug development area. I’m currently applying to masters programs in Toxicology and in my statement of purpose I’m trying to describe my specific interest in the field but I’m having a hard time finding the correct information. So hopefully some of you out there can help me! I have two interests. One is in risk assessment particularly in new drug development and its intersection with making r ..read more

Postmortem Toxicology Report

Burning (and probably stupid) question- if a toxicology report is completed 3 days after death, are results significantly lower than they would be if it was completed immediately? Results for a family members report below- the numbers don’t seem that high but I don’t know much about the subject. And yes, I know I should call the coroner’s office for accurate answers but this is easier for now :-) DOD- 10/28 Specimen collected- 10/31 Morphine --------------------------------- 0.15 mg/L Oxycodone -------------------------------- 0.37 mg/L Oxymorphone ------------------------------ 0.078 mg/L s ..read more

Advice on bachelors

Hello I’m currently looking to switch from my biology bachelor program to a pharmacology and toxicology bachelor program that is online. During that time I have a Lab aide job set up to gain experience and years while also going to school. I was wondering what type of job opportunities I would be looking at after just achieving the bachelors in pharmacology and toxicology. As well as afterwards getting it is it necessary or should I go to a program afterward for furthering either pharmacology or toxicology. Or is it possible to even obtain some certifications and go further as well afterwards ..read more
