Our Monthly Pub Night is back at the Runcible Spoon March 6th! Join us at 6PM at the Runcible Spoon for some pipe music, 11 days before St. Patrick's Day! Our second Beginner's Circle will take place on Sunday, February 23 at 3:00pm at the St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Bloomington, Indiana. Our Beginner's Circle series is by beginners, for beginners. A core part of the Society's mission is education and bringing up new pipers, and the Beginner's Circle is meant as a place for those who have mastered the fundamentals and are onto learning their first tunes to get together, talk about their challenges, swap ideas on how to overcome tough spots, and show off what they are working on. Photo by Shelby FletcherOn October 4 the Pipers' Society hosted what is likely to be its last outdoor pub night of 2019, as winter weather is sure to start rolling in by November. The weather for this meet was perfect, starting in the low 70s and dropping into the 60s as the evening wore on. The Pub Night featured 12 musicians - 7 bagpipes, 2 tenor drummers, and 3 chanter learners - one of our largest turnouts of pipers to date. The Bloomington Pipers' Society has scheduled with the Runcible Spoon its monthly bagpipe pub nights through April! All of our pub nights run from 6PM to 8PM, at the Runcible Spoon at 412 East 6th Street in Bloomington, Indiana. The Spoon is pretty intimate as a space, so when the weather is poor we'll be indoors on session instruments and quieter bagpipes. A group of performers with the Bloomington Pipers' Society put on a show at theĀ Fourth Street Arts FestivalĀ on August 31, 2019. The Fountain Trust Pipe Band Drum Major Doug Weisheit joined pipers from three different bands - the Fountain Trust Pipe Band, the Southern Indiana Pipes & Drums, and the Greater Midwest Pipe Band - in giving a 30-minute demonstration of Scottish pipe band music, and showcasing different types of bagpipes.
