“ 12If any of your people—Hebrew men or women—sell themselves to you and
serve you six years, in the seventh year you must let them go free. 13And when
you release them, do not send them away empty-handed. 14Supply them
liberally from your flock, your threshing floor and your winepress. Give to them
as the LORD your God has blessed you. 15Remember that you were slaves in Egypt
and the LORD your God redeemed you.&n ..read more

As told to Jamila Bentley
Donald and Helen Govan have been happily married for 69 years, which is not a milestone of any kind you see every day. Despite naysayers predicting that their marriage would not last, the Govans are a testimony of what can happen when a couple consistently demonstrates commitment to Christ, to each other, and to unconditional love. They will celebrate 70 years of marriage in June 2019, and in their words they are “still kicking – not too high – but still kicking.” Here is a look at their journey, as well as some lessons along the way…

Dear Brothers and Sisters of NBEA:
You have not heard much from us since our 2017 Chicago Convention. The primary reason has been lack of financial resources. Simply put, after subsidizing at least 4 annual meetings, we decided to focus on taking care of our organization’s debt before resuming our conventions. During this time, we have designed a strategic plan, and we have hosted several important conference calls related to a Black evangelical response to “Trumpism.” An important chart was developed called “Trumpism” Opposed by Evangelical Black Values. A Testimony by Rev. Normal M. Dowe
Rev. Normal M. Dowe
When I attended The National Black Evangelical Association’s (NBEA’s) 54th National Convention in April, I discovered a lamp that is under a basket (Matt. 5:15). Years ago, I had heard that it existed but knew nothing about it. The convention’s theme, “Prayerful, Prophetic, Practical Intercession/Intervention for Communities in Crises” intrigued me. Black American communities are in a state of crisis from various trials. I believe that the only answer to the crisis is God. However, many African Americans, especially men and the young, ha ..read more

POINTING US IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION!
A Lesson From The Wisdom of King Solomon
Here we are today, over three thousand years into the future; from the Times in which King Solomon wrote the following words:
“To everything there is a season, and a time for every matter or purpose under heaven…..He has made everything beautiful in its time. He also has planted eternity in men’s hearts and minds [a divinely implanted sense of a purpose working through the ages which nothing under the sun but God alone can satisfy], yet so that men cannot find out what God has ..read more

A presentation to the 53rd National Black Evangelical Association Convention of 2016: The Cries for Historical Identity and Healing.
By Dr. Anne Bailey, NBEA member and Author of African Voices of the Atlantic Slave Trade: Beyond the Silence and the Shame.(Beacon Press, 2005)
Abstract
These are troubling times but people of African descent have known great troubles. As the Negro spiritual goes, “Nobody knows the trouble I’ve seen, Nobody knows my sorrow.” The legacy of slavery and racism has meant a history of suffering and pain but that suffering has an end. There was slavery, but there ..read more

Soon I’ll be seventy years old. It’s hard to fathom this, since I still feel twenty-five.
When I was young, I lived for moments. Today, I’m living for time. Langston Hughes has a poem that included the line, “life is short, but God is long.” That’s how I feel these days.
My decades as a Christian activist have taught me valuable lessons. I’ve had to learn a lot of these things the hard way, but I boiled a handful of “lessons” down to twelve common sense and overlapping principles of protest, some of which are adapted from my book Free At ..read more
