Missionary service is a decision that will truly affect eternity. I am so grateful for the opportunity we have had to serve in the Curitiba Temple. Part of our hearts are not coming home with us!! Gratefully, we get to keep everything we learned and experienced while we were were here in Brazil. All these people, places and experiences that we were a part of have changed us. We are not the same people we were when we left Utah. The memories are ours to keep, and they'll go with us wherever we go from now on.  The Curitiba Temple was the fifth temple built in Brazil. In 1953, at ..read more

Moroni returned to the top of the temple on Friday. It was no quick and easy task. But he looks fantastic. I'm glad we were able to be here and cheer him on!  ↓These are the leaves of gold that they used.  Up, up and away ..read more

I know that there are some people out there who think we are serving on a 'mission-cation', but, hey, when the temple closes for its two week's of maintenance, what are Don and Linda to do?! Take a trip! First Stop - Porto Alegre Porto Alegre, which means “happy port” in Portuguese, has the distinction of being ranked 43rd among the world's 50 most violent cities.  That wasn't the reason we chose to go there! ? Sitting on a hill overlooking Porto Alegre from the east is the Porto Alegre Brazil Temple, the third temple built by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Braz ..read more

This weekend took us back down to  Florianópolis. No...not for this... ...but  for a YSA Retreat with President and Sister Oliveira. This weekend was Brazil's Labor Day and that gave most people a four day holiday. A perfect opportunity for a retreat - workshops, dances, games, and, of course, lots of good food.   It was fun to see Michelle and Luana 'on their home turf'↑  Except for having to be a part of the program, the experience was lovely! ? Then on Monday, Brother and Sister Gonçalvez invited President and Sister Stadler and us to their home for lunch ..read more

Ipoméia
Brazil McMission

It all began in Ipoméia.  Ipoméia, or Morning Glory, is a plant, whose flowers are in the form of a trumpet.  It is also the name of a little settlement far, far away from Curitiba.  And, so, the story begins... In 1920, Robert and Auguste Lippelt and their seven children were living in Germany, when their fourth child became gravely ill. This child who was dying, looked at his sister who was 12 years his senior and said, "Here in this room. . . just a bit ago were our grandparents, who said to me that next Thursday, at this hour, they will come get me and I will be dying ..read more

AHHHHHH, April

April is going by ohhh sooo quickly!  Besides our temple assignments, these are the things that have been keeping us 'hopping'. Helena and Ester brought their mom and dad over for ice cream last week. The girls wanted to see where we lived! Later, the missionaries and the Cesars enjoyed burger night at Maderos. President and Sister Oliveira invited the Camargos and McClellans to District Conference in Guarapuava this past weekend. This little city is about 3 1/2 hours away. We stopped halfway for a bite to eat. The Conference was under the direction of Elder Gonzaga, the are ..read more

Wow! What a weekend! I don't even know where to begin. The Solemn Assembly, the two new apostles, all the changes, seven more temples announced. These are the Latter Days for sure! And, on top of all that, there were some really good talks. Some favorite quotes (in no particular order) -  "Let us ponder our lives, listen for prophetic council, and follow Christ more perfectly." And, of course, celebrating Easter on this glorious weekend was just frosting on the cake. How grateful I am for our Savior, Jesus Christ, and his atoning sacrifice.&n ..read more

Cooking class for "Dummies" was held in Sister Freide's apartment Monday. Zenia is always cooking up something - she truly keeps us in Brazilian treats.  I told her to call me down the next time she made coxinhas. She said that they were so very easy to make! First, you have to pressure cook the potatoes - mash them up - add the chicken stock and milk - simmer - add the flour - cook it up - plop it on a buttered counter - knead it - roll it - cut it - roll it into balls - flatten it - add the stuffing - make it into a teardrop - splatter it with egg white - roll in bread crumbs - fry ..read more

Moving into March

I can't believe that so much of March is already gone! And tomorrow is the first day of autumn!! (I know, I don't think I would ever get used to the reverse seasons down here.) Anyway...this is what has been keeping us busy. We celebrated summer's end by going to the beach. (This was the best place to get Frutos do mar - seafood for you English speakers) President and Sister Stadler have a home on the beach about two hours from Curitiba. It was a nice break from the city. The water was so very warm! So, if seafood isn't your thing, the Cesars took us out for pizza one night. Or, if ..read more

Finishing February

Short little February sure went fast! But, lest we forget, these activities completed our month... We had this great adventure planned last week for our Monday P-Day but the rain prevented it. Not to be deterred, we had our picnic upstairs in our apartment building. A good time was had by all. Ward members Nephi and Elizangela Martin (Miguel and Ester) invited us to Sunday dinner. Birthdays are always so special.? Anyway, mine was celebrated with wonderful friends. But wait, there's more! We celebrated again in FHE. Happy Birthday Presidente and me! We welcomed Elder and Sister ..read more
