How to tie the Red Half Hog with Steve Cullen

by

Today we are taking a look at a cool wild Brown Trout pattern called the Half Hog, tied by Steve Cullen. It's a challenging little fly to tie, but it's worth the time and effort, especially if you're intending to fish any rivers or reservoirs. The half hog is ideally fished by itself, but it can be fished in a team if need be. It works particularly well when there's a chop on the water, as it sits in that and you can see it from a good distance. If you're wanting a challenge, give this fly a go and you'll not be disappointed! All of the materials needed to tie this fly are available from&nbs ..read more

Today we are checking out the Unsinkable Dry Fly, tied by Steve Cullen! If you are wondering why it's called an unsinkable fly, it's down to how it's built and the materials involved. This fly is designed to sit on the surface in any sort of condition and similar to that of a Fidget, an old dry fly pattern, you can twitch and jerk this fly to create a lot of action on the surface, imitating a fly which has ended up stuck on the surface of the water. Get a few of these tied up ready for your next day out, they're definitely worth a cast! All of the materials needed to tie this fly are availab ..read more

Early Season River Trout Tactics - Darryl Mooney of Partridge

Early season Trout on the rivers is usually a mixture of opportunism, putting in the miles to be at the right place at the right time. The fish are gonna be feeding at some point and hopefully the conditions are there for you to take advantage. At this time of year March Browns and Large Dark Olives (LDOs) are the main source of a fish's diet – Many of these insects hatch in the faster water, ascending through the water column where awaiting fish mop them up. You might well start the cooler part of the day fishing nymphs in the shallow riffled water moving on to the glides as fly activity inc ..read more

How to tie the Original MOP Fly by Steve Cullen
Fishingmegastore Blog
by

Today we are taking a look at the Original MOP Fly, tied by Steve Cullen. This fly is rather controversial and it fishes very well after a flood. It's distinct look makes a lot of anglers think that there's no way this pattern will work, but it works and Steve assures us of that as well.  Part of the controversy surrounding this fly is the fact that it's mostly banned from competition venues. due to it's unnatural size, colouration and sink speed, any fish that spots this fly has never seen anything like it before and therefore strikes at it. In fact it's so good at what it does it's n ..read more

How To Tie The Clydesdale Stealth Jig Pike Fly by Paul Clydesdale

Today we are checking out the Clydesdale Stealth Jig Pike Fly, tied by none other than Paul Clydesdale! The Clydesdale Stealth Jig Pike Fly is designed for slightly deeper water that gives an exaggerated jigging action that large Pike and other predators will find hard to resist. Cast this fly out and allow it to sink to the bottom and then gently strip it through the water. Pause, allow it to drop down again and then hold on because it’s during this fall that you will feel a sudden strike! It’s a great pattern for when the fish are playing hard to get or on those sunny days where the heat fro ..read more
