Caused by Ida which damaged Louisiana,  NYC’ now suffers from heavy rain and flood.  Scenes on the news is just so terrible as heavy rain fell during the night, knocked down subway station and other roads, it seems.  Quite a few people are not able to go home last night and/or go to work this morning. I know how outdated NYC subways are and how often the road get flooded with heavy rain.  Now we know how climate change works….. My step son and his family lives in Manhattan and I just sent a note to find out how they are. (Not received response yet ..read more

Today, September 1, was the busy day for me.  As of today, Digital agency was established and I am appointed to be a Chief officer of the agency.  I went to the new office, met with other CXOs and staff.  Minister Hirai and I did ceremony? from the new office, while the Prime Minister Suga joined from the President office.  I was quite overwhelmed by the size of the press at and after the ceremony.  I met with so many people, some of whom I had seen online during meetings, and it will take a while for me to remember them all. After I was finished with the ceremony, I c ..read more

This morning, I received nice flower from my young friend I know very well.  She remembered the day (Sept. 3) my Dad left us and sent me  lovely flowers.I took a photo of flower and my Dad.  It has been almost a year and it is nice to have friends who remember. As this is August 31, the end of the summer and tomorrow marks the beginning of the fall, I decided to check what I did last year and the year before last.  Last year, on August 31, I wrote that summer is over, what now? while discussing the kids with bicycle and other things. So not much change for this year, except ..read more

I made blog entry (I believe) about watching planes from my bedroom window.  That is for making my eyes which get so tired watching display/screen for long time rested AND for my own pleasure. (While in British Columbia many summers ago, I was fascinated by the cloud and happened to find the “Cloud gazing society.” of the people who love gazing cloud.) I still like to gaze clouds in Tokyo, but like watch planes more.   I missed flight by Blue Impulse twice around the Olympics. Another way I relax (not my eyes, probably my stiff shoulders and lower back pain caused by daily worko ..read more

Sense of time?

As I watch the news on hurricane which is about to hit New Orleans area and the evacuation from Kabul airport, I feel as if I have lost sense of time.  Katrina which is often mentioned with the hurricane Ida as the latter appears to follow the same route hit Louisiana 16 years ago.  I still remember the Katrina well and I find it difficult that 16 years have passed since then. Evacuation from Kabul airport which has faced so much difficulty these few days reminded me during the early stage of evacuation (before recent turmoil) of the scene in Vietnam.  (The scene I recall was no ..read more

As I made blog entry the other day, the Jackson Hole Economic Symposium has been underway virtually,  I wanted to listen to livestream of Fed. Chairman J, Powell’s speech on economic outlook.  It is about 20 min. or so. You can watch it here. It might be a good idea to watch the youtube.   It was made at 9:00 am CT. It would be interesting to find how his speech has been received. (I am not macro economist (as I wrote earlier), it is beyond me to figure out what exactly the message means.  You can check the views reported  in variety of media after you watch the v ..read more

As I made blog entry a few days ago, I am scheduled to give a key note speech at LATAM Retail Show in Brazil in the middle of September.  This seems to be a major event with many speakers and online.  I am to tape the video session next week for my key note speech and I am preparing story outline and slides.  (I believe it is about 45 min. to an hour.) The topic they want me to discuss is Society 5.0.  I gave a few presentations in Brazil  two years ago o this topic.  I already did  interview in the written form for some media.  As there have been many c ..read more

I have heard of Jackson Hole Economic Symposium several years ago.  My first question was where is Jackson Hole, Wyoming?  I have never been to the state of Wyoming and little knowledge about the place.  I wondered why big symposium is held at this place. I am not a macro economist, and thus have little idea about the agenda and how discussion goes etc.  But I have seen some articles on the symposium as some interesting and provocative? remarks seem to be made at this symposium. This year, it will be held online and only one day, August 27.  It appears that the final a ..read more

Opening ceremony of Paralympics has been held tonight in Tokyo.  It is in the midst of the emergency declaration extended to many more regions as Covid-19 surge is continuing.  I have not watched the opening ceremony as some more events are canceled, leading my schedule into chaos.  I wanted to watch the flight by Blue Impulse, but missed again.  Paralympics will go on until September 5 ..read more
