Four years ago I answered a call for submissions by the CAMH (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health). They were proposing a therapeutic art installation in their facilities. There were more than 300 submissions ranging from 2D work to elaborate three dimensional sculptures. A little while later I received an email that I had advanced the the next round of jurying. 124 artists were selected for 25 stand alone pieces. Fast forward three years……I assumed that the final selections were made and I hadn’t been selected. And then I received an email letting me know that not one, but two of my images ..read more

I have been working in the water this summer creating two brand new bodies of work. I am always trying to push myself and my creativity and often times I fail to see just how far I have come. I felt a gentle nudge the other day to step back and observe and the impact took my breathe away. Here is one of the image from my first series in the water. This image gained a great deal of attention and in fact won an award and with that award came my very first solo exhibit in 2014. And here is where I am right now…. Same medium. Same figurative focus. Very different work. I love both for very diffe ..read more

I have been fascinated by figurative sculptures lately. The way the curves of a woman are defined in various elements from stone to clay to marble. I started exploring ways to capture movements of people in water. Who knows where this may lead ..read more

So, I was asked to participate in a curated art exhibit. Two of my Water Colour pieces hung proudly next to 10 beautiful pieces in a well established gallery. Unfortunately, neither piece sold but honestly, my intention to participate in the exhibit was to put myself and my work out there. Maybe they would reach a new audience. Maybe someone who otherwise would never have seen the image would be touched in some way by seeing it. When I went by to pick up the pieces, I asked the curator if she had any feedback from both herself and those who came into the gallery and saw the exhibit. She said s ..read more

I’ve always been one to wish I weren’t different. I would wish that I could change this or change that. I wanted to This is the 4th image for my new series about fears and secrets. What I found most interesting in talking with people is the common theme of being afraid of being your true self and embracing your light. What I found most interesting in talking with people is the common theme of being afraid of being your true self and embracing your light. Listening to people talk about their fears and secrets made me feel much more connected with myself if that makes sense. More willing to acce ..read more

Wall of Faces and the masks we wear

This is the second image for my new series about fears and secrets.  After talking to people who were willing to share, one recurrent theme was the idea of wearing masks…masks that hide our fears, our emotions, and even our true identities.  We all wear different masks at one time or other.  The mask that hides our sadness from others and presents a happy exterior.  Masks that hide who we are and portray what people want to see about us.  Masks that hide our fear despite our outward appearance of confidence.  The self basher, the control freak, the martyr, the bul ..read more
