Hey All, It’s been a while since I’ve had a chance to write a blog post for the website. I took a little bit of a break for the summer. Then I decided to travel to Russia for a few weeks in the Fall. Then when I got back I found out that I’m eligible to run the 2019 Boston Marathon!! I’m really excited to train for this event - but it’s taking a lot of time and commitment. Unfortunately - that means there won’t be many updates around here until the spring. However, I’ll do my best to keep posting pictures here, on Instagram and Facebook from time to time. Until then though, I could use your he ..read more

Over the past few weeks we’ve taken a looks at some cloud backup services (and some services that you shouldn’t be using for their “backup” capabilities). Since those posts were spread out over several weeks, this week’s blog entry is just a round up of those services that you can easily navigate to: Google Photos Flickr Facebook & Instagram Amazon Dropbox iCloud OneDrive 500px And just incase you’re wondering why we’re spending so much time discussing back ups - have a look here. If you’re here because you need help choosing a service, I’m not here to recommend a specific service. Everyon ..read more

In keeping with our look at popular cloud backup services today we’re going to take a look at a photocentric social-media/licensing platform: 500px. If you need a primer on backups in general start here. Like the other social media platforms we’ve looked at, 500px isn’t really designed as a back-up service, however, it isn’t like the other social media platforms either. 500px seems to actually be a photo-centric social media licensing platform. In short, it’s what we all wished/thought Flickr was. That being said, let’s have a look at how it stacks up as a platform for cloud backup. Free ..read more

In keeping with our look at popular cloud backup services today we’re going to take a look at: Amazon. If you need a primer on backups in general start here. Aside from the troubling thought of contributing the coffers of the richest person in the world, one of the world’s most influential and powerful oligarchs and the maltreatment of his workers, Amazon makes a pretty compelling backup service. In keeping with our look at popular cloud backup services today we’re going to take a timely look at two of the most popular social media platforms out there: Facebook and Instagram. We’re gonna tackle them at the same time since they are both part of the same company and largely have the same functionality when it comes to backing up photos. If you need a primer on backups in general start here. Obviously, these service aren’t really intended as backup services. They are, and have always been intended at social media platforms. The reason I’m including them in this round-up of ‘backup’ s ..read more

In keeping with last week’s promise to survey a variety of backup services today we’re going to take a timely look at one of the photo centric social media options out there: Flickr. If you need a primer on backups in general start here. Flickr is an interesting beast. Over the years, it’s gone from parent company to parent company in an endless series of acquisitions. I didn’t plan to go over the Flickr stats until later. Strictly speaking, this isn't’ really a backup service - but it’s been in the news lately as it been acquired by yet another parent company: Smugmug. This post is timely for ..read more

First off, let me apologize for my prolonged absence from the blog. I've been missing for an entire month! All I can say is that it’s been a busy few weeks at work and the last thing I felt like doing over the past few weeks was spending additional time in front of the computer. April is the cruelest month. With that out of the way, I wanted to introduce the first in a series of blog entries that will serve as a guide to some of the more popular cloud backup options that exist. These are really a follow up to the promises I made in February. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be taking a look at A ..read more
