. [ad – post contains a gifted product] We have lived in this home for seven years now, and I like to think the main parts of decorating and renovating are behind us (unless we win the lottery and extend the kitchen). However, whilst big makeovers grab our attention more immediately, it is the little changes which can have just as much of an impact on the way we live and feel within a space. I guess the story of every home lies in how it evolves and adapts to accommodate the changes in the daily lives of its inhabitants and ours is no different. We have done little more than a couple of simpl ..read more

. Good morning (or afternoon, or evening, according to time zone!).  This is an equally surreal as it is exciting week for me because, something I’ve been working on behind the scenes, an interiors book, is published tomorrow. So, today I thought I would take the opportunity to show you a preview and tell you a little of what you can expect to find within ‘Own Your Zone: Maximising Style & Space to Work & Live in the Modern Home‘. As the title suggests, it is a book about using zoning to build multifunctional purpose into your home, but I hope you will take a lot more ..read more

. [ad – this post is a collaboration with Kallums bathrooms] After many years of making do and waiting, I am thrilled to be sharing our bathroom makeover in collaboration with Kallums Bathrooms today. If you hop back a few posts to our bathroom plans, you will be able to see the sorry state of our previous bathroom, and my plans to create a new space which would give me the feel of a hushed haven of simplicity and elegant minimalist design. I knew that I would be thrilled to have a bathroom without leaks, what I didn’t fully anticipate was how much I would love the new space. It feels ..read more

. Part two of my travels in Italy guide takes us on a journey to Lecce, Italys furthest city in the southernmost heal of its boot, via the beautiful fishing town of Monopoli and along to the award winning coastline of the Salento. If you have read part one then you will know that we were looking for somewhere beautiful that Italians themselves holidayed, and without breaking the bank. Having spent The first part of our holiday in Matera and then the surrounding countryside we began our journey to Lecce. This was the longest part of our journey (since we chose to fly back home via Brindisi fro ..read more

. If you are looking for an Italian holiday during high summer and want somewhere beautiful but untouched by droves of tourists then a trip to Puglia and Basilicata could be your perfect escape. Just before the pandemic I asked an Italian friend for her recommendation of somewhere not thronging with British holidaymakers, perhaps somewhere Italians themselves holidayed, and most presciently for what was about to happen on the world economic stage – somewhere it was possible to have a beautiful holiday without breaking the bank.  We had stayed in Puglia, the heel of Italys boot, be ..read more

. I have been teetering on the edge of decision making in the bathroom for many months. I can’t overstate how much I have been looking forward to a new bathroom, not just because new bathrooms are lovely. But because ours has had a hidden dirty secret for the last few years. It was fitted very badly soon after we moved in six years ago and I just didn’t do the proper research I should have on potential trades people. It all looked very lovely, but as the months went by and sink taps exploded flooding the bathroom, or pipes came loose under the bath, the cracks had begun to show. Having had nu ..read more

. We live on the outskirts of London, a London-borough-but-only-just, and as a result I’ve always felt our garden should be pretty natural and wild. Not in a country garden style, but the idea of Astro turf or concrete slabs in the main part of our garden felt a step too far, and not great for ecology. However, the main section of our garden has always presented us with two big problems.   . The Problems with our garden Firstly the unevenly laid grass on shallow chalky soil has never really thrived, despite numerous attempts to encourage it with seed and feed. Secondly, and as a result ..read more

. One of our favourite rituals in our home is the evening meal. My son and I are both vegetarian (he quite recently) whilst I’m married to a devoted carnivore, our meals don’t always look the same, but we do all love to sit around the dining table and share moments together in the evenings, especially so as we head towards summer and the days dimming light floods into our eating space. In the summer I swap out the tablecloth we use in winter and keep things as relaxed as the food (which is usually a variety of mezze in the summer). I don’t believe in much formality around the home so our dini ..read more

Rey Chairs for Hay . It was lovely to be up in London looking at design again yesterday where Clerkenwell Design Week recommenced for the first time since 2019. It was great to drink up inspiration from the new launches, and note which design themes are sticking around and which colours are being used in them. My main takeaway is that curves aren’t going anywhere, they have been joined by circles, as a reflection of the move towards more sustainable design and homes with a biophillic brief, I think curves and circles which mirror natures never straight lines will be a staple in interiors for ..read more

Small updates in the home

. At the start of the year, during the New Years sales, I decided to invest in some long term pieces for the home. I have been very minimal and restrained and have bought very little for the home over the last few years, but I decided to invest part of the payment from a big job back into the home. I wasn’t thinking of drastic changes like renovation, but small upscale decorative objects that would create impact whilst also promising to stick around as pieces I’d always love. I made three purchases, two had been on my wishlist for the last three years, and the last one was something I spotted ..read more
