A spring clean.

The middle of March, the slightest whiff of Spring on the horizon, and the desire to deep clean and sort out every corner of the home reaches fever pitch..!   Who am I kidding? I’ve been itching to spring clean ever since the start of the year, but now that the turning back of the clocks is imminent, and daylight is starting to reach the furthest flung corners of the house again, it’s finally time. There’s something quite cathartic about a deep clean at the start of spring. Refreshing and decluttering isn’t simply about creating physical space; it’s also about nurturing mental cl ..read more

Prague. A romantic, fairytale city of higgledy-piggledy streets, spires and bridges. And a perfect destination for a mid-Winter city break!  After a wonderful press trip to Dubrovnik with Jet2 in 2022, I was eager to check out which European City Breaks were on offer with Jet2Holidays, since my first experience travelling with them had been so hassle-free and enjoyable. They have plenty of fantastic destinations you can fly to direct from Manchester (our local airport), including Barcelona, Berlin and Cologne, but it was Prague that most piqued my interest. Luis had visited a fe ..read more

Ding dong, ding dong… it’s that time of year again! I had to do a quick check, but it’s actually been 4 years since I put together a round up of Christmas gifting ideas for the blog.   Which is crazy, because it’s something I absolutely looove doing, but I think in recent years the relentless rate of consumerism during the festive season has really worn me down. Do I really need to be promoting yet more consumption at this time, even if all the products I’m sharing here are from small businesses —many of them based here in the North of England?   I feel like every year recently ..read more

It’s dinner party season!

Is there anything more exciting than planning a dinner party at home with your nearest and dearest, Come Dine With Me style?  Minus the excruciating scoring-in-secret part that is!    If the Channel 4 reality series is your go-to guilty pleasure as well (couples edition, of course!), then you’ll be just as excited as I am that dinner party season has arrived once again. So, when I was asked to create some dinner party themed content by build-to-rent operators Get Living, at their New Makers Yard neighbourhood in Salford, I naturally jumped at the chance.  I have to ..read more

A dog’s day out.

One of the things I’ve come to love most about Manchester is just how dog friendly a city it is! I noticed it long before little Paco came into our lives. The number of small dogs nestled at the feet of their owners in accomodating coffee shops, riding the tram, or taking a stroll along New Islington Marina on their way to the dog park. As a city with more and more pet-friendly apartments (and hotels!) popping up all around, Manchester really is a great place to plan a day out with your doggy in tow.  While the city centre can get incredibly crowded at weekends, there are ple ..read more

A true holiday.

When was the last time you took a vacation that was truly about just switching off and relaxing?  Since my last family holiday with my parents —in 2002!— I don’t think I’ve ever gone away with the sole purpose of doing absolutely nothing. ‘Holidays’ since then have been all about exploring as much as possible; cramming as much as I possibly can into every single day of the trip, and returning home in desperate need of, well, a holiday!    I first visited Casa Cook Rhodes back in 2016, on a European press trip to celebrate the soft launch of the hotel, one of the first of its ..read more

The start of September always ushers in a raft of emails in my inbox, showcasing the new season collections from some of my favourite design brands.  While I don’t believe anyone needs to be updating their home decor on a yearly – let alone seasonal – basis, I’m always excited to see new lifestyle imagery from the brands whose designs I’m always most drawn to; to gain inspiration for new ways of arranging my home, new colours I might like to incorporate in the form of small trinkets or textiles, and to form an overview for the direction the interior design world as a whole is taking ..read more

I always love to see how the creative and unique approaches design companies take in sharing their brand philosophy with their customers. Danish design brand Vipp have been slowly but surely developing their own portfolio of design-led one-of-kind hideaways, that allows guests to fully immerse themselves in the wonderful world of Vipp and experience all their products in the most beautiful of settings. It’s such a wonderful and immersive approach, don’t you think?    And their latest offering, Villa Vipp, is probably the most gorgeous of them all… Located in the southern Itali ..read more

“A store for those who are inspired by travel and craft and want to create a home that’s full of soulful moments and memories.“ That sounds right up my street!    We Are Nomads is a beautifully curated online store founded by Jane Badu, another former Londoner who has recently relocated to the North. Jane reached out to me recently to introduce her gorgeous website to me, and I was delighted by the lovely selection of products —and stories— has has lovingly brought together.    Inspired by her travels —particularly within Morocco which you know is one of my favourite de ..read more
