Don’t Wait for Snow to Get Hyped for Winter.
Hello West Michigan

In my job, I often get asked what I like to do on the weekends. For me, the answer depends on the season. During the summer I love to go to the beach and visit farmers markets. In the winter, I’m cross country skiing. When spring rolls around, I’m prepping my garden for vegetable planting. In the fall, I’m eating orchard donuts like every other Michigander and preparing for ReThink West Michigan. Embracing all 4 seasons is something I love about living in West Michigan. But in my quest to become a downhill skier, I knew I couldn’t wait for snow to fall to prepare for the season. Sometimes the ..read more

Hello West Michigan

The weather in West Michigan is getting colder and winter is approaching soon. That’s one of the wonders of living in West Michigan. We experience all four seasons within a year, and nothing really stays consistent. From Spring we see a lot of foliage and vegetation start to spring back into life. At this point of the year, we tend to gear up for gardening where tulips and flowers start to blossom. Then summer brings the beauty of the blue sky reflecting onto the lake creating a refreshing cool dip. Where we stay out late, soak up the sun, and enjoy the cool nights under the stars. As summer ..read more

Hello West Michigan

I look forward to winter.   There I said it. It’s not what you typically hear from Michiganders.   When I talk to people interested in moving here, especially from warm weather states, the thing they’re usually most worried about is winter. Here at Hello West Michigan, we always suggest layered clothing, safety devices for the car, and a positive attitude. But my best piece of advice or thriving in winter: embrace a winter sport.   If you’ve been around this blog for a while, you know my winter sport is cross-country skiing. I’ve been doing it since I graduated f ..read more

Silver Lake Sand Dunes
Hello West Michigan

One of my favorite ways to spend a summer day in West Michigan is at Silver Lake State Park. There are plenty of things to do there with friends and family like dune rides, exploring lighthouses, and visiting farm markets.   Silver Lake is home to three miles of stunning Lake Michigan shoreline and nearly 2,000 acres of sand dunes. Dune rides are the most unforgettable off-road adventures in West Michigan. You can rent a buggy for the day or go for a hosted seven-mile dune ride by Mac Wood’s.   Riding a dune buggy isn’t the only way to see Lake Michigan’s beautiful views. You c ..read more

Hello West Michigan

Did you know that West Michigan is the second most agriculturally diverse state in the nation behind California? In fact, Michigan is one of the top-producing states in growing blueberries. More than 50% of all Michigan blueberries are shipped at fresh markets, but July and August are the perfect time to enjoy a West Michigan summer tradition…picking fresh blueberries (and snacking on them along the way).  Bowermans Blueberry Farm Market is my favorite place to pick the juiciest berries from more than 90 acres of crop. This family-owned farm has fields for you to pick from and a fresh ma ..read more
