Banksia Gardens: Visiting Our Community, & Meeting People Where They Are
Second Chance Animal Rescue

Supporting real people with vital resources, so they can continue caring for the pets they love, and sharing with them what they need when they need it. Every community has them. A series of nondescript buildings sprinkled throughout our cities. Maybe you pretend they don’t exist. You block them from your vision, your mind. Not because you don’t see them. But because you do. You don’t want to see the people that stand within their door frames because then you have to think about how they ended up there. And hope that you never will. Yesterday, SCAR was invited to attend the Banksia Garde ..read more

Breaking the stigma: Homeless people and pets
Second Chance Animal Rescue

Marisa Debattista CEO/ Founder Pet owners who are experiencing homelessness deserve our compassion, support, and our assistance to access resources, not our judgement! In our line of work, we are not only faced with assisting unwanted companion animals who have no homes, but we also find ourselves addressing the needs of pet owners who are experiencing homelessness themselves. With an increase in the number of Australians facing financial hardship after the last few difficult years, I fear that we will see a huge increase in people finding themselves on the streets with their pets. Celebrating 14 Years Of SCAR
Second Chance Animal Rescue
by CaityP

“Working as at Vet Nurse and volunteering at my local animal shelter, I saw firsthand just how many animals and their owners needed help and how little resources were available at the time to help them. It needed to change, and I thought I could help. All I wanted to do was save animals and keep people and the pets they love together. I cannot believe how far we’ve come!” – Marisa Debattista, CEO & Founder of SCAR It was 14 years ago today that Marisa launched an animal shelter from inside her lounge room. Rescuing animals from pounds, rehabilitating them in her home and finding loving ..read more

Why You Should Adopt A Shy Cat
Second Chance Animal Rescue
by Kevin Newman

It’s the same old story. A family heads into the shelter to pick their future kitty to take home and join their pack. On the windowsill as they approach the Kitten Room, a cute little kitty meows at them, batting at the glass with his paw; bounds around their feet as they enter the room, playing and full of confidence. On the other side of the room, another kitten, just as cute, hides inside his kitten igloo. The family don’t even know he’s there, but he sees them – he’s just too shy to come out yet. Before he’s even ready to leave his hiding place, the first kitten has been scooped up and is ..read more
