Santa brought us Trusses for Christmas our trusses were delivered and what a sight it was! Let’s talk trusses and roof systems! A timber roof truss is a structural framework of timbers designed to bridge the space above a room and to provide support for a roof. Trusses usually occur at regular intervals, linked by longitudinal timbers such as purlins. The space between each truss is known as a bay. TAKE A LOOK AT THIS VIDEO Here’s what all the trusses looked like piled flat on the semi Here are some cool shots from the day. Before and After Trusses Next up, see the vision for our ..read more

Asbestos, Here We Come. We got some pretty crappy news that this house was filled with Asbestos. So, before we could do any demo. It had to be remediated. That means, they go in with serious hazmat clothing and do their stuff. Take a look at the progress. Here’s a fun little video showing the Asbestos tent and the interior demo work Spray paint arrows and X’s mark the exterior areas to be demo’d. thought you’d enjoy this Seriously. The water was off. So, at this point, the only way to use the toilet (in emergencies, only) was to fill it with a few buckets of water. So many buckets, that ..read more

Monks and More! In order to create this fabulous project, we need to basically scrape the lot. The backyard was filled with decks, pergolas, awnings, vegetable boxes, water features, rocks and more rocks! So, we placed an ad for a garage sale of sorts. But really a garden sale. When Lance and I approached the property, he said, “I think there are some monks out front.” I said, “no way.” We were greeted by the most amazing site. Let’s back up a minute I want you to really understand what we were (and are) dealing with. Here’s a sort-of pano shot of the backyard. Every single thing you see in th ..read more

Stacked or Staggered. And the winner is… Thanks to all of you who wrote in, both on the block and also directly on text. It was super interesting to hear from everyone. The vast majority of you voted for the tried and true…Staggered. So, that’s what we did! Here is the kitchen wall with the staggered tile. We used a matte subway which gave it a classic but also modern feel. It was special ordered at Bull Nose Tile in San Jose ..read more

We are fast approaching the finish line and wanted to share our design vision with you. Here is our North Star. This was the render we had done at the beginning of this project. Framing is underway. And up it goes!Things are moving at a rapid pace. Lance is at it almost full time managing foundation specialists, plumbing, electrical, subs, vendors, inspections, framing and MUCH more. But the most satisfying part of this whole process (at least for me) is framing. It's tangible and it moves fast. Here is a stop motion video to capture the last couple weeks of this magnificent house coming to life. The Render As a reminder, here is the render. This is ultimately what the house will look like, give or ..read more
