Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality.  Collectively we can #BreakTheBias. Celebrate women’s achievement. Raise awareness against bias. Take action for equality. Get involved at: www.internationalwomensday.com I am no stranger to the challenges that women face being taken seriously, often glossed over as being “too emotional”, “too sensitive” and frequently spoken to with a tone that would ..read more

Bohemian Dress

If you are a frequent online shopper or like me, just window shopping with Google – you may recognize this bohemian dress. While I absolutely love the look in the promotional photos the reality is quite different. When I looked in the mirror, it was another reminder why I don’t bother buying from these companies. I can’t tell you the actual brand as it is widely available across an endless array of Asian clothing sites – you know the ones I mean. While I don’t particularly think $40+ is even remotely fair to charge for such an item… that’s not the topic of today’s discussion.  Long stor ..read more

Lockdown Closet Shopping

Once again this year, Ontario appears to be in a never-ending state of lockdown that I’m really exhausted hearing about. I have been spending my personal time outside gardening, hiking and now kayaking when the sun comes out. Ultimately I haven’t thrifted for a long time as the stores are still closed and online for me is more negative than positive as I need to be able to return things. I never imagined our city would ever be “locked down” but its interesting to reflect on how it has brought attention to the things I regularly do for entertainment. I will be frank, I have zero interest in t ..read more

New Home Gym

Change is Good. While I don’t have the option of working from home for my administrative job, I was resorting to the outdoors for fitness while the gyms were closed. Now they have reopened but I’m still lacking the drive to go. When I’m at home I just seem to find other things I’d rather be doing. Until this past weekend that was my attitude, then I was inspired when a friend said she made herself a home gym that she really enjoyed being in… how it made a huge difference. Discipline is doing something when you have no desire to, but you do it anyway. Create a positive space. I saw ..read more

Turn a Blanket Scarf into a Poncho!

My favourite article of clothing for fall and winter has always been ponchos. They’re so easy to wear and can jazz up any basic outfit… in addition to keeping you warm! One morning while getting ready for work I found myself frustrated once again with my blanket scarves. While I love the idea of them, they are often just too bulky, a bit overwhelming and sometimes claustrophobic. Suddenly it occurred to me that I could easily transform my blanket scarves into ponchos for a far more versatile look.  Check out my basic steps below for how to transform your own scarves into ponchos ..read more

DIY: Pumpkins from Old Jar Lids

What you need: Old mason jar lids (18 works best) Cord or string Flexible decorative wire Small piece of tree branch Spray paint (optional if you wish to colour them) Step 1: Tie Lids Together This project is tricky to do with only one set of hands but it is do-able. Individually feed each lid (facing the same direction) onto the cord or string. Wire is not flexible enough and doesn’t work well. Make a loose knot holding the lids together, they should overlap each other in order.  Step 2: Insert Branch or Twig While holding your loose cord knot in one hand, slide the pi ..read more

Too Big? No Problem!

Black & Yellow Floral Romper This adorable number is the Tie Front Romper by JustFab. I snatched it up at Talize during their two day 50% off pink and purple tag sale. It was brand new with the tags still attached but an XXL. I was drawn to it instantly and knew there had to be a way to make it work. To my delight there wasn’t much involved to make it fit, instead of tying on the one side – I was able to wrap it around my body and tie on the opposite side, therefore tightening up the fabric. The shoulders are quite big but a little hem got rid of the bulk and a safety pin holds the ..read more

Lemon Twist

We have grown into a society that believes we fit a certain model. When it comes to clothing we expect that we are a small, medium or large – we believe that because its a 10 we should be able to fit. To our horror when its too big or too small. I have been convinced over the years that I have larger than normal upper arms because many items that have sleeves don’t fit – I can’t even get them on.  Other times the length of pants or a dress is much too long for my 5’3″ height. Every body is unique and there is no such thing as a one size fits all. This is why a little sewing can go a lon ..read more
