I am in a bishopric in a YSA ward and one of our members just dropped off the face of the earth a few weeks ago. Did some research and found out he had been booked into jail. Ends up he is on the sex offender registry from a crime against a minor he was charged with 4 years ago (he was still in his early/mid 20’s back then) and prior to his baptism. We knew he had some legal problems that required an interview with the mission president, but nothing else was disclosed. We have no idea why he was rebooked into prison a few weeks ago - violation of parole or an additional offense etc. Even thou ..read more

The church admits:
The first version didn't happen.
The BOM is fiction.
Joseph Smith is a sexual predator.
By publishing on its website the evidence that a reasonable person under scrutiny would conclude these 3 points are true, how can the church claim they are true without gaslighting everyone?

Thoughts I wrote in my notes app - I believe Evil exists because of the fear of the unknown and how it'll affect your existence personally. Evil and Fear go hand in hand. And Darkness is full of fear and seeks to steal light to transform it into something more intelligently powerful. Evil has the power to create intelligence, except Gods. God has the power to perfect intelligence, even as Himself, but not the ability to create the will to exist (intelligence). Man exists to increase light generationally, that all may have Joy. If God is good, all sin must be evil.

Did anyone know or meet Chad Daybell or Lori Vallow? Mormon world is small.
What were your impressions? How did he convince so many people? What was it like to be around a Mormon murderer?
I wonder what all the "prepare a people" and other Mormon extremist feel or think having paid to hear him speak or bought his books knowing now that his teachings lead to murder.

How do you all digest, navigate, interpret, explain, etc. the contrast of these two chapters?
I had hoped to find the true nature of God within the "most correct" book's pages. The same Jesus that said, "forgive them, for they know not what they do," soon after destroys city after city, "to hide their wickedness and abominations from before my face..." and then tenderly invites all who lived to come and feel the prints of the nails in His hands and in His feet.
This is a very difficult dilemma for me. Help!
