REALLY REALLY recommend this book! At 8 yrs sober, I can recognise and name most emotions, but I still struggle with accepting and interpreting some of my reactions to the more negatively perceived feelings in the range. I bought this book to help me with that and it has been a revelation! For those who prefer TL:DR this is a great summary diagram: Author: Susan David Old outgrown ideas is a big one for those of us who don’t drink any more and reminds me of this post shared by SITC: View this post on Instagram A post shared by Sober in the Country Ltd. ‘Am I an alcoholic?’: the blurred line between a daily drink and a drinking problem

https://journals.healio.com/doi/10.3928/00904481-20140924-09 Since returning to the UK sadly alcohol has had an immediate impact on my life with news of its role in recent illness and death in my friendship group. With that in mind I share this piece from The Guardian Australia which was written a few weeks before we left so the cross-over feels apt and it’s a helpful comprehensive piece for those looking for further support following on from my last blog entry: Almost every day someone will enter my office and ask, “Am I an alcoholic?” or, “Do you think I have a problem with alcohol?” and som ..read more

Off to see him tonight So we’re off to stay with friends in Nottingham for our first Christmas back in the UK with the added delight of getting to see Bill Bailey live tonight. I LOVE Bill Bailey and have seen him live only once before when we used to live in London. While surfing the web I found this article which felt very apt so thought I would share it here today There are comedians who can be wonderful onstage and a challenge offstage. Bailey is wonderful onstage, where he mixes offbeat jokes with affectionate musical homages — Deep Purple’s Smoke on the Water on cowbells, anyone? — an ..read more

Last family pic in Oz Tree up in new UK home So we’re back in good old Blighty after almost 4 years in Oz. As Belle said: ‘what an adventure you’ve had!’ and she was and is 100% right. What an ADVENTURE we have had. That’s the thing about stopping drinking – you just don’t know where it might lead?! Would I have gone and lived in Australia for 4 years if I was still drinking? Who knows but my gut says probably not. It required determination to get a working visa (it took 18 months) that I would have been too sloppy every evening and weekend to persist in getting. And saving up too to pay for ..read more

Aboriginal recovery artwork given to me by one of my clients <3 So our 4 year visa has come to an end and it’s time to go home. 4 years sober in England and now 4 years sober in Oz – 8 years of tremendous change and joy. People change you but so can places and experiences. My love song to Straya – I am a different person, you have turned my world around. But with a nod to my home country – BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall The post Homeward bound …… appeared first on A hangover free life ..read more
