The first Connections Summit – a community event open to families and staff of the Affton, Bayless, Hancock Place Lindbergh and Mehlville School districts – will be held Saturday, April 20 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hancock Elementary School, 9101 South Broadway.  According to a statement from the district, there will be “opportunities for and/or relevant to all age groups” including a college fair, a career/job fair and presentations on topics such as money management, parenting support, internet safety, ELL support, mental health and substance abuse. The St. Louis County Planning Commission will meet for its monthly public hearing Monday to hear proposals for a veterinary clinic and pet daycare facility in South County.  The commission meets Monday, April 22 at 7 p.m. in the County Council chambers at the county government center in Clayton, 41 S. New and returning Lindbergh and Mehlville school board members were sworn in last week after receiving the most votes in the April 2 election. In Lindbergh, newcomer Rachel Braaf Koehler and incumbent Megan Vedder took their seats on the Board of Education April 9. They earned the most votes of the four candidates seeking the two open seats on the school board. The Oakville’s boys tennis team is looking to have a big spring. After finishing 7-12 in 2023, the team has some key returning athletes this season. Joshua Tiemann, Kolton Kreisz, Justin Bradley and Samuel Webb all return for the varsity squad. Crestwood passes Sam’s Club gas station expansion

The Crestwood Board of Aldermen unanimously approved an ordinance granting a conditional use permit to Sam’s Club, 10248 Big Bend Blvd., to expand its existing gas station from six to eight pumps at its March 26 meeting.  The new pump will be added on the west end of the fuel station, bordering residential property in Kirkwood.  The six current pumps at Sam’s Club, located in the C-1 local commercial district, were built in 2001 following the approval of a conditional use permit and site plan in June of that year. While the season didn’t end quite the way he hoped for, Lindbergh boys basketball coach Nathan Biggs still considers the 22-6 campaign by the Flyers a success. “We had a very tough final game to a successful season,” Biggs said. “We knew that we had a chance to win some games this year and we had some guys really step up to lead us to our 22-6 final record.” Quinn Sunderland and Zac Goss were key contributors to the team this season. At the Lindbergh Schools Foundation Scholarship Night April 3, pictured above, the very first Dr. Mary Louise Zieger Scholarship was awarded to LHS senior Alexis Gralike who will be attending Missouri State University in Springfield to study elementary education in the fall. Crestwood revisits waste services amid container concerns

Waste Connections and its services were a much discussed topic at the March 26 Crestwood Board of Aldermen meeting. In late 2023, the board unanimously voted in favor to renew the city’s residential solid waste services with Waste Connections for an additional five years. The contract will increase monthly rates by $1 in the first year, which means residents will pay $21.78 per month as opposed to the $20.78 per month they formerly paid.
