As noted last week, the printing plant in Hutchinson currently used by Herald Journal newspapers is closing as of April 26.
We are currently reviewing proposals from other printers and are optimistic that printing and distribution will be able to continue without disruption, although there may be slight changes in timing.

In partnership with McLeod County, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) will begin construction on the Highway 212 Roundabout Project on Monday, May 6, in Glencoe. The project will see the construction of a single-lane roundabout at the intersection of Highway 212 and Morningside Ave.
It will include a multi-use trail on all sides of the roundabout to connect existing trails in the area.

The Glencoe City Council unanimously passed a motion to approve a supplemental letter agreement with Short Elliott Hendrickson (SEH) for a repeat sound study for Revolve Labs during its Monday meeting.
Two options were presented to the council: a sound study with two testing locations for $6,900 and a sound study with three testing locations for $9,600, with the council opting for the latter.

McLeod Cooperative Power awarded its 2023 Touchstone Energy Community Award to the United Way of McLeod County. This yearly award recognizes a local non-profit or community group that had a positive impact within McLeod Cooperative Power’s service territory. The United Way of McLeod County was one of nine nominees for this year’s award and was acknowledged for its youth scholarship program, which provided 115 scholarships to local youth in the past year.

Mike and Shannon Lien of Hutchinson were named the grand champions and took home the prestigious large Mirrorball trophy at 2B Continued’s fourth annual “Dancing like the Stars” show this past weekend.
The show featured 12 couples from Brown, Carver, McLeod, Nicollet, Renville, Sibley, and Wright counties. Each couple worked with a professional dance choreographer to learn a dance routine for this friendly competition.

Alden Capital/MediaNews Group announced Thursday it will cease operations for eight area newspapers on both sides of Herald Journal’s territory.
Those include the Hutchinson Leader, Litchfield Independent-Review, Chanhassen Villager, Chaska Herald, Shakopee Valley News, Prior Lake American, Savage Pacer, and Jordan Independent.
The closure announcement also includes the printing plant of Crow River Press in Hutchinson which prints Herald Journal’s five newspapers. The final printing week is scheduled for April 26.

The Glencoe Rotary Club is starting fundraising efforts to construct a dog park at Oscar Olson Sunrise Park. The estimated cost of building the one-acre dog park is $51,570. The Glencoe City Council unanimously approved a Park Board recommendation to approve a $12,500 earmark for 2025 towards the construction of the dog park with funds from the Park Improvement Fund on April 1st. Glencoe Rotary Club President Julie Schmidt says the club will be contributing $15,070 towards the project and will be applying for a “local district grant through Rotary for about $4,000”.
