Hultine WPA undergoes prescribed burn

Several crews, including the Sutton Wildlands Fire Crew, performed a prescribed burn at the Hultine Waterfowl Protection Area northwest of Saronville on Saturday. The burn, which was managed by Prescription Pyro, LLC of Broken Bow, gave the Sutton crew some hands-on work for their newly developed wildland burn crew. Equipment has arrived to help with the demolition and ultimate construction of a new overpass across the Burlington Northern/Sante Fe rail line. The project, located just west of Sutton is one of many projects of the Clay County Highway Departments project for this summer, into the next several months. Sutton senior Carson Mau, President of the Sutton FFA Chapter, came away from the 96th annual Nebraska State FFA convention with two honors. Mau was named as the 2024 Proficiency Award Winner in Turf Grass Management, as well as, being honored with the Star Farmer Award in Agri-Business.
