FORT BRAGG, CA, 3/24/24 — Not many Mendocino Coast people heard last year’s tsunami test warnings. But a bigger and better test is scheduled for Tuesday. There are just four tsunami sirens along the entire 131-mile Mendocino Coast, with two of those in Noyo Harbor. And during the 2023 test, the siren at Pudding Creek malfunctioned.This year will be a full test, after problems and cancellations in recent years hampered other drills. State reveals plan to remove lead-contaminated soil under Salmon Creek Bridge

MENDOCINO Co., 3/22/24 — A public comment period opened on March 21 for Caltrans’ plans to clean up soil contaminated with lead shavings left from painting work done on the Salmon Creek Bridge in Albion during the 1950s and ‘60s. The cleanup, scheduled to start in 2026, would be the first step in replacing the steel girder bridge, a project slated to start in 2030. The soil beneath the bridge, including some soil on private property, shows lead contamination beyond acceptable levels for human health. The plan is to remove about 21 million pounds of soil. MENDOCINO Co., 3/19/24 – Mendocino County Library cardholders throughout the county are now eligible to receive library books, CDs, audiobooks and DVDs by mail if the cardholders are homebound. This includes due to lack of transportation to get to a library and/or illness or disability. The free program allows patrons to borrow up to five items at a time for 35 days with opportunity for renewal.
