What's a Midnight Sun?
Anderson Scandinavian Tours

In Scandinavia there is a thing called the "Midnight Sun." It's pretty much as it sounds, the sun at midnight. Finally we have a tour highlighting just that- the sun that is at midnight. We see the land where the sun doesn't sleep, well not for long. Interact with the people who are used to this. It's a wonderful chance to learn something pretty different. It's also a great chance to think about what the sun means to you. I am very solar powered- if the clouds are out more than a couple days in a row I am pretty cranky. Seeing the sun for so long was interesting to me. It was like Mother Natu ..read more

Racing Dala Horses

When my son was younger and I was not aware of how enticing hand-crafted Swedish Dala Horses can be for a two year old, he grabbed them and bounced them along as though they were racing. I came in one day and my wife, who is not Swedish, said, "Oh look, isn't that cute?" I reminded her of how expensive the hand-crafted Dala horses are and how fragile they are. So then we bought Ben a Dala Horse plush toy and he would not have anything to do with it. Check out our Dalarna tour to see first hand how they make Dala Horses! Let us know if you have any questions ..read more

It's almost Spring! Time to go out and play in the grass, jump in the water, and breath deep sweet fresh air. It's also a great time to plan a trip to Scandinavia. With seasons changing it is a great time to think about our heritage, and the heritage of those we love. When we visit the land of our ancestors it is like traveling back in time, and taking the steps of those who went before us. Dean Anderson is one of the great tour planners and is a very jovial and kind person. He would be happy to help you with your individual tour, or you can book one of his amazing tour packages! We are worki ..read more

Walking in Unison

I once read a story about how the ancient Greeks had once thought that human beings were created with two heads, two hearts, four arms, and four legs. They were genuinely good people, but all of a sudden really upset the gods. To punish humanity the gods sent a lightning bolt out of the sky and split each person into two- each with one head, one heart, two arms, and two legs. Then, just for spite, the gods relocated each half to different places on the earth. This is why we always strive for someone to complete us, we are looking for ourselves. I have been thinking a bit about my origins, and ..read more

Something Swedish
Anderson Scandinavian Tours

With the onset of autumn and the changing season it is natural to think of the seasons of our life. Sometimes we wonder about the land of our ancestors. We can read books and watch films, we can even attend events in small Swedish communities around the US like the "Swedish Hyllingsfest" in Lindsborg, Kansas this coming weekend. There really isn't anything like going there yourself. We have a great Christmas tour that pretty much hangs around Stockholm. It's a great metropolitan city. Often it's referred to as the "Venice of the North" because of her many lakes. Stockholm is really surrounded ..read more

The wise Teacher who wrote the book of Ecclesiastes told us that for everything there is a season. This tour season we have had a few tours leave and we have a few more. Make sure to look at our tours and see if there is something you'd rather do than sit around in the heat and do prosaic things like work and errands. Sweden is much more fun. http://www.toursweden.com/about Many Safe Travels, wherever your road takes you ..read more

Nature is Tragic

"Nature is not only glorious, it is also tragic. It is subjected to the laws of finitude and destruction. It is suffering and sighing with us. No one who has ever listened to the sounds of nature with sympathy can forget their tragic melodies," Paul Tillich, The Shaking of the Foundations. Lutheran professor and theologian Paul Tillich wrote this sermon drawing on the inspiration of the Psalms. He said that "The glory of nature is not a shallow beauty." It's an easy thing to get caught up in living our daily lives, distracted by all of the things that fill it. Our fears and worries and circums ..read more
