How to teach kids about self-esteem

Self-Esteem means confidence in one’s own worth or abilities.  It’s what we think of or value ourselves.  Another way to think of self-esteem could be self-worth, value or identity. This is one thing I have struggled with in the past, and I have written about it before.  There are a lot of circumstances that contribute to someone’s self-esteem, sometimes valid, sometimes not.  As an adult self-esteem is a difficult topic to understand, and even if we can understand it is often difficult to deal with.  It can be even more challenging for kids.  How can we teach kid ..read more

Are you teaching the Days of Creation from Genesis? Are you looking for an activity that could help you reinforce part of your lesson? These Days of Creation Coloring Pages may be just what you need. A while back I saw a need for activities to do pre service, so I created this set of Ten Commandment Coloring Pages. That was a very popular download, being used in schools, churches, and homes, so I thought I would create another set. This time the coloring pages are based on verses from the Days of Creation. Your kids can color their way through the verses to see what God said and did as he was ..read more

Congratulations!  Quite possibly your busiest week of the year in Kid’s Ministry is finally over. No doubt you will be taking some time to rest and catch your breath, but let’s take a few minutes and help answer everyone’s Post Vacation Bible School Question– what are your VBS follow up ideas? Our local VBS took place a few weeks ago. While I wasn’t in charge, my wife and I did lead the lower elementary group through their stations (which happened to be the largest of all age groups all week!) After the week was over we talked through some things we would do if we were in charge of the we ..read more

How to change your negative thoughts with the Bible and Neural Plasticity

What do you think of The Power of Positive Thinking?  There was a time that I considered “The power of positive thinking” to be something along the lines of New Age Philosophy or maybe a “name it and claim it” religious belief. It might be much more simple than that. IT may just be a shift in our thought process to help eliminate negative thoughts. “Cogito, ergo sum”, or “I think, therefore I am”  is a famous quote from philosopher Rene Decartes.  On a philosophical level, he was saying that our thoughts prove our existence.  When we think, it proves that we exist, even if ..read more

A NEW 6 week kids ministry series : The CODE
PastorRonBrooks

This series was originally written for a local church introducing a new church-wide code. The whole idea was a series of statements to help the people in the church know who they are in Christ as well as let everyone know what the church stands for. This was a church wide series, and the lessons for the kids were adapted from the church code. Since the church used ‘code’ statements, the overall theme is a spy theme. Each lesson will deal with an aspect of Christian life and how we should act- many lessons are outreach related, since much of what we do as a church is tell others about Jesus. If ..read more

Mother’s Day is coming soon. As I watch Facebook message boards I see may people asking advice for Mother’s day coloring pages, lesson ideas, crafts and activities. I have recently tried learning a new skill, and I *think* it is working out well.  I have been making coloring pages.  With the lessons and activities I already create, coloring pages seem to fit well, since I know many kids like to color and many churches and schools use coloring pages as supplemental material. With Mother’s Day coming, I decided to make some Mom and Mother t ..read more
