Will I be evicted? Can I move May 1? What if my rent goes up? Can that even happen? Here are answers
We’re a month into the novel coronavirus’s impact on life in Atlanta, and by appearances, we have at least another month of disruption ahead. Which means that Atlanta’s rental market, and the city’s renters, are dealing with a unique and unexpected reality. This leaves a lot of questions to be answered, even if we think we’re weary of talking about COVID-19.

Meanwhile, an Atlanta-based designed firm is teaching hotel operators how to convert into makeshift hospitals
One of the nation’s busiest convention centers is poised for a temporary transformation that could help Atlanta combat the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Vernon Ormewood will offer 20 houses a couple of blocks from the Atlanta Beltline’s future Southside Trail, developers say
A pocket neighborhood rising in Ormewood Park is another sign that Atlanta residential construction is forging ahead during the novel coronavirus pandemic’s shelter-in-place orders, an “essential” industry the city allows.
Officials with The Brightstar Team/Compass announced today several homes are under construction despite COVID-19 restrictions at Ver ..read more

Could we do better? | Josh Green, Curbed Atlanta
It’s been a month since widespread closings began. Have city leaders gotten it right thus far?
The battle over Beltline use during the COVID-19 epidemic has concluded—for now—with restrictions governing who can patronize the multi-use trail system and when.
Aside from that, though, the City of Atlanta’s populace has largely conformed to the guidelines laid out by public health professionals, from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on down.
Once ubiquitous, e-scooters have vanished from city streets; previously packed restaurants have ..read more

The Floridian color scheme at 1573 Paxon Street SE, with entry to the downstairs apartment at bottom right. | Southeastern Home
The recently listed renovation described as “gorgeous” overlooks Coan Park
In the southwestern fringes of Kirkwood, along sloping Paxon Street, this updated ranch from 1963 is anything but typical now, at least in terms of layout and design decisions.
Like most ranches of the era, it’s solid brick all the way around, but now with a white-painted facade that includes what could be polarizing door colors.
Fluorescent flamingo, let’s call it.
In any case, this latest int ..read more

Enlisting a roommate, in large part, entails swearing an unwritten oath—that a life in close proximity is inevitable, and that a person’s day-to-day will probably impact that of their companions.
It can be challenging in normal times. Imagine a life in constant close proximity to others—in some cases, former strang ..read more

Fronting the Atlanta Beltline, this 2006 dwelling is a modern rendition of a two-story loft
Don’t let the utilitarian brick exterior of this 2006 unit at Mill Town Lofts in Reynoldstown fool you.
Inside the 1,002-square-foot space, you’ll find all the characteristics shared by lofts of the era across the city. Think exposed brick walls, polished concrete floors, and high, arched windows.
The white and gray palette, steel staircase and railings, and exposed ductwork add a modern, industrial aesthetic to the loft, while th ..read more

Downtown rush-hour traffic one afternoon in March. | Josh Green, Curbed Atlanta
Unlike cities around the world, metro Atlanta’s skies haven't noticeably changed in a time of much less driving As Atlanta’s traditionally clogged and smog-spewing highway systems have been more scantily used during the coronavirus pandemic, another silver lining in these complex times seems to have emerged—at least for now.
Metro Atlanta fuel emissions have dropped in recent weeks, as state and local governments order citizens to shelter at home in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the disease car ..read more
