A wet 24 hours forecast and hoping not too much lands on Newcastle where we have two runners tomorrow on what I had hoped would be good to soft ground, unlikely I fear.  Bruce rides them both and first up is Bluebell Glen in the 3.05; she’s been hard to get on the track this season and at this stage the priority is just for her to run a nice sort of race to give us something to build on, this track should suit her much better than Carlisle but not sure she wants very soft ground at this trip, 7 run. Bluebell Glen We then run Scalloway Bay in the 5.05, he was staying on nicely at the end ..read more

One runner at Wetherby tomorrow

A fine day, mild with a drying breeze.  One runner at Wetherby tomorrow; Donny Boy in the 3.45 – the ground is currently soft, hopefully not too tacky.  He’s been ready to run for a few weeks now and several plans have been thwarted by the weather but he still seems in very good order and tomorrow’s race looks ideal even if he’d prefer slightly better ground – Lorcan Williams rides and 6 run. Donny Boy Slightly underwhelming results for the yard on Saturday after such a good run with Ballyfort finishing 5th, Up Helly Aa King 4th at Newcastle and Elvis Mail 7th of 17 at Uttoxeter.&n ..read more

Newcastle, Uttoxeter, a Hexham winner and Cheltenham thoughts…
Kinneston

A bright and cold evening after a very wet 24 hours, saturation point has returned here at Kinneston as it has at most of the racecourses.  Attritional conditions at Hexham yesterday but Cream of the West toughed it out in good style to win his second race of the season, Boolamore Classic was still in contention when unseating Danny two out. Cream Of The West winning at Hexham On to Newcastle and Uttoxeter tomorrow and the ground will be heavy at both. We have two runners at Newcastle starting with Ballyfort in the first race at 1.27; I’m not sure the ground will be ideal for him but he ..read more

Dry today down here in Gloucestershire, but very soft at Cheltenham and it will be heavy at Hexham tomorrow where we have two runners. First up is Boolamore Classic in the 3:10, he is having his third run over hurdles and he shouldn’t mind the ground. 6 run and Danny rides. Boolamore Classic We then run Cream Of The West in the 3:50, he ran well at the track on heavy ground before and has been in great form since so he ought to go well. 6 run and Danny rides. Cream Of The West Our good fortune continued into Sunday when Eloi Du Puy became our 7th winner of a memorable week. Ned Tanner and ..read more

Another great day at Ayr and on to Kelso tomorrow

Another cold day at Ayr and another great day for the team with two winners, a second and a third. Delighted with Dubai Days winning again as his participation was far from certain earlier in the week, Better Be Definite was a wonderful homebred winner for Liz Fletcher, Artic Mann was unlucky to just be denied by his stablemate and Atlantic Dancer probably ran a career best when finishing a close third. Elsewhere on the card Ozzy Cosmo took a heavy fall three out but should be fine, Sanosuke stressed his trainer a bit at the start (!) and then ran a really good race before deciding to pack it ..read more

Cold and dull but a great day for the team at Ayr with three winners and 2 seconds. Great to see this lovely young homebred of the Hodges, Hombre De Guerra, get his head in front.   And just wonderful to watch Cancan win on her final start before heading to stud in France. She has been so consistent and tough in her racing career and will make a lovely broodmare. Mack The Man bounced back to form to finish a close second and Master Bricklayer showed the potential we knew he had to also fill the runner up spot at 25-1. Elsewhere on the card Skiddaw took a heavy fall but seems fine, Bea ..read more

Ayr tomorrow – a busy day!

Another fine day and a lovely stable debut for So Ladylike at Carlisle this afternoon, should be plenty more to come from her.  On to Ayr tomorrow where I’d expect the ground to be generally good to soft, we have 10 declared runners starting with Hombre de Guerra in the first race at 2pm. This is a competitive enough maiden hurdle but I am hoping he can bounce back to his best on the better ground and if so he shouldn’t be far away, Danny rides and 10 run. Hombre De Guerra A rather busy hour then ensues with 6 runners across the next two races (time for Trainer to delegate and hide ..read more

Gipsy wins at Newcastle and a stable debutant at Carlisle

Quiet day weather wise, happy with that and the farm and the racecourses are drying out, for the moment at least.  A lovely win at Newcastle yesterday for Gipsy Lee Rose, an opportunistic entry that paid off, she’s a wonderfully consistent mare who always runs her race and that’s her third win over fences, Scalloway Bay’s race was unfortunately voided due to a stricken horse on the run-in. Gipsy Lee Rose with Bruce, Caitlin and Erin at Newcastle yesterday. On to Carlisle tomorrow where So Ladylike makes her stable debut in the “Hands and Heels” race for Conditionals and Amateurs at 2.05 ..read more

A fine day and time to reflect on a wonderful afternoon at Kelso on Saturday, no winners but I was thrilled with Ginger Mail finishing 2nd in the most valuable hurdle race ever run in Scotland and Elvis Mail finishing 3rd in the Listed Premier Chase. Ginger Mail running a huge race to be second in the Morebattle Hurdle on Saturday Earlier in the afternoon I had the immense pleasure of watching Lake View Lad and Clan Legend make a return to the racecourse to parade in front of the crowd and of course we had the Cyril Alexander Memorial.  All in all just a fantastic afternoon’s racing wit ..read more

Kelso tomorrow for Morebattle Hurdle Day
Kinneston

A beautiful crisp morning but dull now and looks like being cold and wet overnight. Elvis heading to the gallops this morning Kelso tomorrow; what a fantastic day’s racing they have lined up for Morebattle Hurdle Day, £310k total prize money, the feature race is worth more than any of the handicaps at the Cheltenham Festival and NJH has been lured North from his beloved Newbury.  They have been rewarded by lots of runners and an exceptionally competitive afternoon’s racing which probably means we won’t be winning any of the money with our two runners!  They are the brothers Ginger ..read more
