I’ve been working with my dads horse lately who’s a 18hh Westphalian, Percheron cross. He’s very much the stereotypical lazy draft horse. When I lunge him I really have to pressure him to pick up a trot that’s not just mopping along. Cantering isn’t even an option for him. Also when I’m leading him on ground I sometimes ask him to pick up a trot but nothing will get him going. I’ve been starting some liberty work with him but as soon as I take off the lead, he ain’t moving. He’s quite the character. I’m not the type to beat a horse into moving. I’ll never whip or kick my horses. I want the ho ..read more

Hello, I’m working with an OTTB who has been off the track for 5+ years. She is mostly used as an arena/trail horse. I’m trying to overcome the challenge of her being barn sour, and lately she’s been really good on the trails. I can take her out and she’ll walk back when she knows we’re coming back home but lately she’s been throwing a tantrum. In similar cases I have long trotted a horse and that seems to calm them down to where they can walk back home but she is the opposite; Sometimes she gets worked up and after asking her to stand for a while and to go to a walk she’ll just start up agai ..read more

Taking it slow and being consistent yeah, but what's one advice you can give to get a horse to really understand.

I've worked with my 18 year old gelding but the problem that I'm coming across is that we're good on this right side where he can see me but as soon as I get to his left side (blind side) he freaks out and doesn't listen to me. Any advice would help.

Hey guys. So I have a stud colt who I bought as a stallion prospect. He is bred out the ass well. Problem is he kicks. Since he’s broke and I’m still paying for training I asked if maybe we could back off riding and work on the kicking. No rear no bite. Rides really well. The trainer told me he’s never seen his balls. Okay need to get that checked out the horse 2 maybe a crypt. Trainers wife said she was taking other colt to the vet. Vet sedated him felt him up found one ball. Okay I asked to have an ultrasound this vet was hesitant to do it. I wanted a second opinion just to make sure becaus ..read more

My almost 2 year old horse doesnt want to yield to pressure. Anytime I ask her to get out of my space, she pins her ears and snaps at me. Any time I push her away to get her off she bites at me. I'm at a loss here. Vet ruled out pain.

Hi all,
I have been working with a neglected horse for a couple of months now. And she is doing absolutely fantastic. We have build a lot of trust and have a great raport.
There is one issue I just can't seem to fix, and I would like to hear some people's thoughts on this.
We do groundwork 3 days a week. And she is really great, quick to grasp what I am asking, cooperative and just a good girl overal.
When lunging her to the right, she is equally great and responsive. But somehow, when lunging her to the left side.. She seems to completely zone out. Like, short of jumping in front of her.. th ..read more

So, I bought a thoroughbred about a week ago and I’m getting ready to move her into my home. I want to buy some things before she moves in that don’t need measuring for (like a saddle). What are some things I can get for her?
