Questions about how your rec league is structured

I'm a first year coach and just curious about how things are done in other leagues. My city's program is pretty small/weak in softball (tons of baseball of course). I'm not sure if it's lack of interest or lack of effort put in by the league to recruit girls. You can go one county over and there's a very robust, very well coached league so I'm assuming it's lack of effort. Anyway... because of the small amount of particpants, our league's starting softball age group is 7-9 years old. Because of the way the birth dates fall, we have kids that are 6 (turn 7 in season) and kids that are up to 10 ..read more

My sister and I play high school softball for our school. My dad bought and put together a huge batting cage for our backyard. He also got a rebounder and a pitching machine to hit off of, but they’re not in the images. ??? submitted by /u/True_Distribution685 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Where can I start to learn the game?

Hi all! I am a cricket player, played it for like 7/8 years. After spending some years in the US, I have pretty much given up on the sport cause its not going around. Softball/baseball appears to be the closest thing to cricket so I want to get into that. Mind you, I have absolute 0 knowledge of the game in terms of rules and all but I can learn the basics from the internet. I am 23F student and I know its uncommon to start a sport at this age but I really want to. Any suggestions how to start? submitted by /u/Sea-Concentrate-642 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Outfield glove

Recs for an outfield glove, up to $150ish? I have like smallish/normal size hands and I currently use a 12.5" Rawlings but I think it's more of a youth size glove and it was way too small for outfield. Any recs for gloves that are good for outfield and how long or not it takes to break them in? submitted by /u/coollemon319 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Time limit in pool play

I'm not sure what the rule is here. Tie game. The umpire called last batter. The last batter got walked and when she got to first she kept running. She stole 2nd, and 3rd, and was heading for home until the ump stepped in and said the game was over. The pitcher had the ball a few feet from home and the runner would've most likely been tagged out, but no guarantees. Should the umpire have intervened or let it play out? submitted by /u/WeirdPin4902 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Kids playing in the Dirt

Moved from a competitive league to a rec league and got kids (8/9 y.o.) playing in the dirt regularly… Sooo disappointing, but I shouldve known. Anyway- aside from me constantly yelling at them (heads up, be ready) what can I do? Best idea ive got so far is to take a bucket of gum and offer pieces for those that dont play in the dirt. Appreciate all suggestions! TIA submitted by /u/cbus6 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
