Best ways to treat sunburn on holiday
Eudelo
by Jason Williams

With summer just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about how to prevent getting burned this summer (or… should it happen despite all efforts: how to best treat a sunburn). Sunburnt skin is not only painful and embarrassing (who wants to walk around looking like a tomato, advertising that they don’t know how to protect themselves?!), but most importantly, it increases the risk of more serious skin conditions like skin cancer down the line. Furthermore, sunburns greatly accelerate the skin’s ageing process, which is of course something else to bear in mind. And it may not just be a ..read more

Stripping back your skincare routine
Eudelo

Although it seems to be very trendy at the moment, I am very much against overloading healthy skin with rich moisturisers, facial oils or layer upon layer of different skincare products, as this will slow down natural cell turnover and exfoliation, ultimately making your skin look dull and lifeless. In addition, it also clogs up your pores and causes breakouts in susceptible individuals. We see the ‘victims’ of this trend at Eudelo every day. Over-moisturising (which includes too heavy products as well as too many layers of different products) is not good for your skin, unless you have a genet ..read more

What’s the difference between ‘dry skin’ and ‘dehydrated skin’?
Eudelo
by Jason Williams

I often get told by new patients that they suffer with “dehydrated skin”, but not “dry skin”. So, in this blog post I am going to dig deeper into this statement and do some myth-busting! Let’s start by looking at what actually causes dry skin on a cellular level. So, the underlying cause for dry skin can be an insufficient production of natural lipids (oils) and/or water-holding substances (e.g. NMF) in our skin. The consequence of that is that our skin can’t hold on to its natural water content sufficiently and loses too much water via (invisible) evaporation. You see, our skin evaporates wat ..read more

Today is World Eczema Day and with that in mind, I would like to say a few words about eczema in order to raise awareness for this common skin condition. But before we start, let’s just clarify that when I say ‘eczema’ I mean ‘atopic eczema’. There are of course many different types of eczema including: Atopic eczema, the most common type, and the one we commemorate today Seborrhoeic dermatitis, which is also common, especially in men (but also babies in the first 4 months of life), but is a completely different condition to atopic eczema Contact dermatitis, which is caused by local contact t ..read more

Why don’t you give up on physical exercise and age gracefully and naturally?

Over-the-counter skincare has come incredibly far in the past few years and is continuing to develop even further. Long gone are the days when skincare was just about cleansing and moisturising your skin. Good skincare can not only make skin look better, but also function better. Skincare has these four main functions: Protection (eg from sunlight, pollution and other environmental harms). Sun protection moisturisers and topical antioxidants fall into this group. Bio-Stimulation of collagen and elastin production to slow down age related decline and counteract lines and wrinkles. Bio-stimulat ..read more
