A Widow's Tale – Recover and Rebuild
by Donna Marie Todd

The year I turned eight, my maternal grandmother fell off her roof cleaning her gutters and moved in to live with us in Parkersburg, West Virginia. Her favorite expression was, “What are you just standing around for?” Grandmother came from the “Idle Hands are the Devil’s Workshop” parenting era. An era that might need to return again, if what I see at the mall is any indication. Our offspri ..read more

Honor Your Love Story
A Widow's Tale – Recover and Rebuild
by Donna Marie Todd

In a divorce, a couple chooses not to be together. But widowhood isn’t a choice. Widowhood happens TO you. That’s why how you honor the story of your love with your spouse is really important to your healing. In our society, we are given 3 days to heal. That’s just incredibly stupid. And hurtful. And not real, at all. When you’ve been married to someone for a long time, they’re almost part of your DNA. They are in your cellular memory and letting go takes a long time. And you can’t get face-to-face with them or yell at them on the phone to sort things out. You’re left to bang around in the at ..read more

A Widow's Tale – Recover and Rebuild

Cynthia Moore is one fabulous woman. I first met Cynthia at a retreat and was immediately impressed by the gentleness of her spirit and the breadth of her knowledge. But it was when she started sharing information about how I could heal a digestive problem I was having that I really got a glimpse of who Cynthia is professionally. And simply put, Cynthia is one of the most knowledgeable people I have EVER met when it comes to nutrition and wellness. My bowels were upside down from the stress of widowhood. I was anxious and not sleeping well. Plus, I was newly menopausal, and I needed the kind o ..read more

Refusing to be a Victim
A Widow's Tale – Recover and Rebuild
by Donna Marie Todd
2y ago
The single most important choice a widow has to make is this: Do you want to be a victor or the 2nd victim of your spouse’s death? It sounds like an easy question, but it’s not. Because there is tremendous societal support for the victim mentality. AND, unlike a divorce, which is something you do, widowhood is something that happens to you and that can leave you feeling helpless. Survival isn’t really about how strong you are (although you better be!). It is about how kind you will be to yourself. It’s about how actively you will seek and claim your healing from the SINGLE most devastating lo ..read more

Thirsty for Understanding
A Widow's Tale – Recover and Rebuild

There’s nothing like sharing stories over a cup of coffee. It’s done all over the world. In cafes, coffee houses, homes, and most especially, in retreat centers. The simplest things are often the best. Sitting with someone who understands your point of view, who cares about how life impacted you, and wants you to succeed and be happy. We’d review our plans for the day, figure out when we were going to catch back up for dinner ..read more
