Happy 12th Anniversary to BLISSforSingles! It’s an honor to serve in the Kingdom of God through encouraging fellow singles. I guess I can say I’m an expert in singleness for real after all this time, a third of my life, but God is faithful! Keeping the faith and your peace at family functions this holiday season

Hey, BLISS fam! Usually, I make a blog post about handling being single during the holidays, but this year, I wanted to share something a little different. For some of us who have some kind of dysfunction in our families, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and other holiday gatherings can bring up a mix of feelings, including anxiety. Maybe you’re the only saved person in your immediate family, or you’ve had a season of separation from the family for whatever reason, and now you’re trying to engage with the family again. Maybe your family indulges in activities or substances that you choose not to. Ther ..read more

Is Tyler Perry’s relationship advice even realistic in 2023?

While I can be inspired by his story and respect his work ethic, I’m honestly disappointed that Tyler Perry would use his voice to give Black women outdated relationship advice. Tyler’s recent and viral advice to Black women starts around the 38:00 minute mark in this conversation with actress Crystal Renee Hayslett on her show, Keep it Positive, Sweetie: One of the main points in this excerpt that had social media ablaze was this quote: “If you can find love if that man works at whatever job, and he’s a good man–he’s good to you, and honors you, honors the house and his wife and does what h ..read more

Hearing the words, “We need to talk,” can induce anxiety in many, but it was the best title for this conversation and poetry tour that stopped by Trinity Church in Miami earlier this week.  Hosted by Ezekiel Azonwu & Preston Perry wanted to cultivate conversations about relationships to join faith and the discussions happening today online to shed light and provide clarity from a Christian perspective. I’ve attended the Poets in Autumn Tour a few times featuring these talented artists, and since then, Ezekiel and Preston felt the shift to bring brotherly advice to singles and coupled ..read more

Michael B. Jordan and Lori Harvey split: when she is not ready for marriage

Photo source: GettyImages Over the weekend, it was shared that actor Michael B. Jordan and his entrepreneur/socialite girlfriend for over a year, Lori Harvey, had broken up. I wasn’t expecting that to happen so suddenly after their public appearance at the Oscar parties in March, but many have speculated that the pair wasn’t necessarily that authentic to begin with. But that angle is not what I wanted to address; I want to make note of a few things in this article about what could possibly be the context behind the pair’s breakup. “The relationship was moving too fast for her and they were ar ..read more

With 17% of Black women starting or running new businesses today (Harvard Business Review), romance and entrepreneurship is becoming more of a common intersection for our audience. Even still, the experiences that Black women face on this front are not talked about enough. We pulled up for a chat with some Black female entrepreneurs from the BLAZE GROUP LLC’s community to see what they’ve experienced on this front. The conversation was incredible! As an entrepreneur, would you expect your partner to help you in your business in any way? If so, to what extent? Nefretiri McGriff (Owner | T ..read more

OWN’s “All the Single Ladies” turns real life L’s into love lessons

On this blog, I think it’s important to hold both men and women accountable for our actions in love and relationships. In the ongoing gender wars that distract our culture from truly uniting for a greater cause, we see a lot of finger-pointing and negative talk about each other on and offline. It’s ugly, and to be honest, it’s too easy to do instead of looking at one’s self for the areas of improvement we can make. Many of us have done this before in dating/relationships, placing the end or outcome of the relationship totally on the other person or their gender altogether. However, with some ..read more

Dating Tests: Dating tests your perfection narrative

Last year, I saw a show on Netflix called Indian Matchmaking about a professional matchmaker helping connect single Indian millennials to their potential spouses. It was interesting to watch from the perspective of someone who’s not from that culture and wonder how effective matchmaking is. From what I saw, our brown cousins are going through similar issues in dating as we are in the Black community. Aside from the colorism and ageism that can occur in the selection process, these millennials were capital p—Picky! A common word of advice that the matchmaker gave to her male and female clients ..read more
