Thoughts on contrast impact in healthy adults. Is there a risk of kidney damage or only with individuals who have CKD already?

Have you guys seen the data recently from Regulus therapeutics drug candidate RGLS8429? The data looks really encouraging. If I am understand correctly this could be a breakthrough for ADPKD. There is more data coming out mid year from a cohort with more patients and higher dosing. The company also raised $100M from investors after the data came out. I would be very curious to hear the opinion of a nephrologist on this.

Hi, I understand the basics of both concepts, but I need help with some pathophysiology behind it.
_ 1) In nephrotic syndrome there is a hyperlipidemia. Internet says that it is because of increased hepatic lipogenesis and impaired clearance. - Okay, but why is that? I cant see any connection between hyperlipidemia and nephrotic syndrome.
_ 2) Nephrotic syndrome is also known as a state of hypercoagulation. Internet says that its because of loss of anticoagulation proteins and increase in liver synthesis of clotting factors. - Okay, but why dont you also loose tons of clotting factors? And if ..read more

I’m a second year med student exploring my options for which specialty I want to pursue. I’ve been leaning towards nephrology lately but I wanted to know more about the job.
What procedures do nephrologists do? What’s the average day in the life like? How is the lifestyle? How much pressure is there/how intense is it? How is the job market/outlook?
Thanks in advance :)

Not me, but someone should conduct a study about whether having a bed with a massage function that is used regularly would decrease the likelihood of kidney stones. Possible grants from mattress/furniture companies as it would increase sales of massage beds. No empirical evidence, just a hypothesis.

Non us img endo attending in home country yog 2018 (med school) Failed to match this year to IM so I am planning to go for nephrology. Thankfully I have a knack for hypertension and diabetic nephropathy.
Is it too far fetched to think I can enter into a fellowship at this time of the year?

Hi all,
I’m trying to decide on a postgraduate training program after finishing PA School. I’m essentially dead set on Nephrology but would like another year of structured instruction after graduating before I start in Nephrology working for a private practice MD.
My state has several programs I would be eligible to apply for, and I’m trying to figure out which program would be the best for general IM and Nephrology training even if there is not a specific Nephrology program. They all last one year and involve various rotations and a mix of didactic and clinical instruction. I will list the p ..read more
