I joined World Youth Day to look for The One (hahaha, joke). Kidding aside, I joined WYD 2023 in Lisbon as a pilgrim in search of healing, enlightenment, and clarity of my direction in life. And due to God’s abundant provision and mercy, I got what I prayed for and a lot more. Specifically, I received something that I didn't realize I needed. And that is a growing and tangible relationship with our Queen Mother Mary, whose birthday we celebrate today. WYD 2023 Pilgrims at the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima (Portugal) Growing up, she’s just a concept that’s too alien and distant for me to unders ..read more

Discerning Through Our Desires

There is much confusion in the understanding of “desire” in our world today. It often has a sexual connotation or is considered purely superficial, especially when it’s charged with passion. Because of this, we can easily disregard our desires, deeming them “obstacles” or “not coming from God.” But our desires are in fact deeply rooted trails that lead us to God Himself. As the saying goes, “The man who rings the bell at the brothel, unconsciously does so seeking God.” Because of our sin, woundedness, and weakness, this pure and strong desire for God gets twisted and disheveled until we can n ..read more

Preparing for the OPM Night Pure Heart fundraising event, I could say, was the highlight of my 2023 so far. It was really exciting to be working with Ronel, Jera, and Gama on our second year as the music team for the event. But this year, we got a few addition to our team that made the whole difference. So I want to thank Angel, Geil and Ate Marlyn for their saying yes to this mission and hope to see them next year, too! It was fun deciding on the songs to fit the theme of the fundraising. We also had to think twice about the lead vocalist because we have three lovely voices in the team, the a ..read more

The Heroism of Men

“Joseph, her husband, since he was a righteous man, yet unwilling to expose her to shame, decided to divorce her quietly.” – Mt. 1, 19 A man’s heart has an immense capacity to love, manifested in his strength, courage, and service. This love reaches a fullness when a man loves a woman. Often men dream to be the hero for the woman they love. They want to do all the extraordinary things for her: catch the stars, climb the highest mountains, give her the moon; to save her from danger and dangerous people; to protect her because she is delicate and precious and beautiful. This great masculine cap ..read more

The Ugly Bottle

A few years ago, after six months of School of Life and two months of volunteer work, I finally came home with a big laundry to do. When I was about to start my huge workload, I noticed that I left a large plastic bottle of fabric conditioner in our laundry area. I realized that it has been sitting there for eight months and nobody ever touched it. When I checked, it was still half full, and I realized that it has maintained its sweet delicate fragrance in spite of the many months of non-usage. But one thing is wrong with this bottle. Perhaps because of humidity, or whatever physical condition ..read more

To Be Loved with an Everlasting Love

My heart is closed in accepting that there will be a man who could truly love me. The pain of the past and the hurt I had experienced from my father is enough to kill my hope, to lose the enthusiasm to love, to share my being to a man. I have grown bitter and mad. It feels like I am enclosed in a sealed box. As a child, I grew up with a not-so-good father. He used to cause trouble in the family. Oftentimes, he was drunk. The worst part was he was violent to us, and he had extramarital affair. I didn’t have a happy childhood. I don’t even remember the time I was happy since I was three. I thin ..read more

The Little James Crisis

So who is Little James? A Little Bit of Background He was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus. And in many translations of Church documents, he’d also been called James “the Minor,” “the Younger,” or “the Lesser.” Did Little James in the Bible have a disability? Interestingly, in The Chosen, a multi-season show about the life of Jesus, Little James is portrayed as someone born with some form of paralysis. Apparently, this characterization is one of Jenkins’ creative freedom for the show. There are no historical or biblical records confirming that the actual Little James the apostle had a mala ..read more

Our Father displays His great love for us so plainly in the readings of today. In the Gospel (Lk. 6:12-19), He calls each of the apostles by name. The Father knows us so personally that He calls us Himself, by His own choice, His own voice, His own Word, and takes us as who we are, represented by our name. Not generically, as a category, like when instructors would call us by our group number or by titles or affiliations. No, it is exactly me that He calls. It cannot be mistaken as someone else nor can any other suffice because my name is individually me. It is precisely me that He desires, He ..read more

Sacrament of Confirmation

Nowadays, most of us do not give much importance to the sacraments. And so I am excited to share with you my joy, reverence, and enthusiasm receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. Look at me in the picture. Indeed, I made myself beautiful as if it’s my wedding day. Haha! Why not wear a beautiful dress in front of God? I was very touched how Father Steban shared his thoughts about the Sacrament of Confirmation. He said that it’s more than an occasion. It’s also more than our school graduation. Oh, why? Because that very day, you will face Him at the altar and be anointed, confirming that you ..read more

Searching for Him

“We will see each other in heaven.” A certain woman proclaims it to us when I was ten years old. I forgot her name and her nationality. Most probably she’s a Christian pastor. But I was struck by what she have said! There was a strong conviction in her words. What I understood is that this temporal life isn’t the end of everything. What a relief! Thank You, Lord. At twelve years old, at least with full consciousness, I got to know that God truly cares. I cannot explain what was in my heart at that moment. I remember I was crying hard. I just had a strong desire to learn who God is, to experie ..read more
