We are about 40 days away from Thanksgiving!  In the Bible, we see how 40 days is a time where people experinece transfomraiton in their lives. As we are going through the pandemic, when it seems to be difficult to give thanks, we are encouraging the people of God to practice giving thanks through writing a Thanksgiving Journal.  Through this practice, we pray that we will be able to live out Paul’s challenge to “Rejoice always,  pray continually,  give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 How to w ..read more

Re: Postponing Reopening date to August 9th, 2020 As we know, the cases in Roanoke has been doubling daily. We are witnessing an increase of cases, as if we are climbing up to the peak. The date we set for reopening, will also be two weeks after the Independence Day weekend. There are chances we will see another spike that leads us toward the peak. Our church transitioned to online worship when the amount cases in Roanoke was low. Reopening in-person worship, during the possible peak did not make any sense. Therefore, out of abundant of caution, we have postponed the date to resume in-person w ..read more

Re: Financial Response During COVID-19 Dear Members and Friends of Raleigh Court United Methodist Church, As you may already know, our Bishop has asked all United Methodist Churches in Virginia to not hold in-person worship until June 11th, based on the Executive order of Governor Northam. We will continue to unite our efforts to stand in solidarity with this world, as we fight against COVID-19. We also pray that this time of social distancing can remind us how much our faith community means to us, and remember that we might be socially distant, but no distancing can separate us (Romans 8:39 N ..read more

We are walking through a new reality, as we cannot gather for Holy Week.  Our original plan for Holy Week this year, was to invite you to walk with Jesus in his life, cross, and suffering. We purchased tickets to watch Jesus’ life, on big screens for Maundy Thursday. Sight & Sound Theatre planned a national screening of their recent musical “Jesus.” On Good Friday, we planned a Cross Walk with our neighboring churches and a Good Friday Cantata, by our Chancel Choir, to invite you to the journey of the Cross. On Saturday, we were planning to open the church for pray ..read more

Dear Raleigh Court United Methodist Members,   We are going through an unprecedented time. The development of COVID-19 can easily overwhelm us.  I pray, in the midst of this chaos, that you are safe and healthy!  As we are facing this stormy season, we are to remember that we are called to focus our eyes on our Lord.  Set aside time to pray and stay in the presence of our Lord. Take a break from all the news, which is important for informing us, but at the same time can easily add on to our worries.  Utilize resources that will help you to carve out that time and pray.  Remember that I am se ..read more
