An emotional Shane Archbold of Deceuninck-QuickStep has won the elite men’s road race at the Vantage National Road Championships in Cambridge.  Archbold out-sprinted George Bennett who had been in the break solo all day, with Dylan Kennett taking third place. Niamh Fisher-Black has won the elite women’s race at the Vantage National Road Championships in Cambridge.  The Kiwi took the title with a perfectly timed late attack that proved enough to take the win ahead of Ella Harris and Teresa Adam. A rower and an ironman athlete upstaged the cyclists in time trials on the opening day of the Vantage National Road Cycling Championships in Cambridge with Hamish Bond and Teresa Adam taking the elite titles. The 2018 champion Hamish Bond reclaimed the elite male title while Auckland triathlete Teresa Adam won the elite women’s jersey in the time trials on the first day of the championships. Dion Smith of Mitchelton-SCOTT produced the highlight of the week for the men’s Herald Sun Tour with a second place finish on the final day of racing behind teammate Kaden Groves.   Smith’s podium finish capped off a good week for New Zealand riders in the 67th edition of the Herald Sun Tour.  James Oram of Black Spoke Pro Cycling Academy led the GC charge, with a solid 10th overall; 2.50mins behind overall winner Jai Hindley of Team Sunweb.  Hayden Mccormick also produced a 7th placed finish in stage 3 to Wangaratta, while Luke Mudgway placed eighth in the Melbourne finale. Cycling New Zealand has named a 13-strong team to contest the UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships to be staged in Cairo in August; starring double rainbow jersey holder Laurence Pithie.. It will be the first time that the championships have been staged in the Middle East, and will be held in a new velodrome in Cairo, Egypt from 16-21 August, the first built in the region which has a burgeoning cycling culture. An emotional Ella Harris has taken her first professional win at the Lexus of Blackburn Women’s Herald Sun Tour.  The Canyon-SRAM rider – racing the stage race for the New Zealand National Team – claimed the win atop Falls Creek ahead of Sarah Gigante of TIBCO-SVB and Mitchelton-SCOTT’s Lucy Kennedy. A burgeoning pack of UCI World Tour riders will add considerable interest to next week’s Vantage Road Cycling National Championships in Cambridge. The championships are part of the annual RIDE Festival with a criterium at Hamilton Airport on Thursday 13 February, Vantage Elite time trials on Friday, the RIDE Festival Gran Fondo on Saturday and Vantage Elite road races on Sunday.
