My boyfriend had a stroke a few weeks ago and when he was having it, his eyes went in different directions and almost bulged out of his head. Is this a typical symptom? I didn’t think it was but I guess it had to do with the placement of the blood clot he had submitted by /u/justanormalgal11 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

My mom had a stroke in January. She’s home and doing well independently. Vision, memory and reading are still challenging. The doctors told her not to drive until she passes an exam. She failed the exam. Last night, my sister called to say people have seen my mom driving. We are petrified she will her someone or herself. My sister is going to visit with her tomorrow night to talk about it. Can we get some advice? submitted by /u/Dry-Coast-791 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Had an ischemic stroke 10 days ago and have gained 6 pounds. I throw candy or sweets In my mouth before even opening my eyes in the morning it feels like. I ate prett healthy before but I keep craving random stuff and will not be happy unless I get it. I’m eating LOADS of candy and muffins and the worst stuff for me. Like pregnancy cravings I guess. I’m craving sunflower seeds right now, seems normal but I haven’t had them since I was like 10 and playing softball??? Been eating bowls of tomatoes cucumbers and italian dressing everyday . Not really concerned but is this something with my brain ..read more

23 and had a TIA - feeling really lost on this.

Hi everyone, I'm a 23m law student. It's finals time and everything is winding down (I find finals relaxing, test for a couple hours and the year is over!) Monday, suddenly, I woke up unable to read or speak properly. I skipped words, said the wrong words, my hand and face went numb in the right side... and then before the EMTs even got there it mostly vanished. I went to the ER and they did all sorts of tests on me (CT, EKG, Echocardiogram, and blood sugar tests) and it all came back clean so they let me go, with a passing comment that "I think it's a parasthesia but it doesn't explain not b ..read more

Anyone young and dealing with this? I’m 32.

Hello, 32F history of multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, and TIA. My TIA occurred in 2018, but I didn’t get care until 2020. My neuro noted that I have “occlusion and stenosis on bilateral carotid arteries” via ultrasound. I also tested high cholesterol and high BP. What is so frustrating is that I’m young, I’m at a healthy weight (5’5 and 130 lbs), I’m active daily and I eat paleo (but no red meats or coconut). I am seeing my neuro on Monday who will be referring me to a vascular dr. But I’m just worried because I’m only 32 and I live a really healthy lifestyle. My mom died at 55 of a pulmonary e ..read more

Her voice sounded off on the phone and an ambulance was called where they diagnosed a stroke and rushed her to emergency surgery. I don’t know much else at this stage but I think she started showing symptoms about 4 hours before she got to the hospital. I’m confused and scared and just needed to say something to someone. submitted by /u/MyOwnPrivateUniverse [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

MIL stroke 59 Medicaid question

My MIL suffered a stroke in late Nov. She has lost function on her right side but doctors stated she could recover with physical therapy. Unfortunately she didn’t have health insurance but we were able to find her a long term care facility. She lives in Arkansas and they pushed her out of the hospital pretty quickly. We were able to get her some PT for 60 days which didn’t start until Feb. but once she qualified for Medicaid it kicked her off her exchange plan and she then lost access to PT. She’s too young to qualify for Medicare and doesn’t fit the only exemptions for waiver of the 24 month ..read more

My dad had an Ischemic two months ago. He had a feeding tube because the doctor were worried that he would not be able to swallow ever again. He was also paralyzed on the right side of body, cannot sit up without support and had severe aphasia. He went from Acute Rehab to Subcute (skilled nursing home). They did not do much rehab at the subcute so we helped him with the exercises mostly. He was able to eat again, and he can sit without support on the side of the bed. After realizing that my dad can chew and swallow normally, she gave him a Chinese medicine called Angong Niuhuang Wan. She said ..read more

PFO closure - 14 y/o

Looking for some feedback from those who have had PFO repair. Here's the backstory. Sorry it's long, but I figure the more info the better. My 14 y/o son randomly had a "stroke-like" symptom out of the blue a couple months ago. He's always been healthy, plays club sports, very active, etc... one night, as he was just about to go to bed, my wife was trying to talk to him but he wasn't able to communicate verbally. This lasted about 10-15 mins, and he was visibly frustrated during this time that he couldn't speak clearly (it was more of a mumble). After about 15 mins, he was communicating fine ..read more
