My, how time flies! For those who are interested, local Ottawa gaming convention, CanGames, 2024, begins exactly one month from today. The convention will be held from May 17th - 19th at the Rideau Curling Club here in Ottawa. The convention was cancelled from 2020 to 2022 due to COVID, and I missed 2023's version of the convention due to serious health issues, so I'm really looking forward to it! Registration for the convention has been open for some time, so I'm hoping all the games are filling up. Here's the listing of (roleplaying) games that I'll be running at the convention this year ..read more

Sunday Afternoon Gaming Session Cancelled

Today is Sunday. I was supposed to game today with the Sunday players this afternoon. However, that isn't going to happen. Due to a change in her work schedule, Tammy is on-call this weekend for her job so as a result I won't be gaming today with the Sunday gaming group. I was quite looking forward to gaming with the Sunday afternoon players today, as I was going to start a brand new Doctor Who Roleplaying Game adventure for their campaign this afternoon, but that's not happening. Another case of Real Life(tm) getting in the way of gaming. Anyway, I'm looking forward to running the game ag ..read more

Happy Birthday, Peter Capaldi!

For those who might be interested, or who are just plain Doctor Who or The Musketeers fans... Peter Capaldi, the actor who played the Twelfth (or Thirteenth, depending) Doctor in the Doctor Who series celebrates his birthday today. While I can't say that I'm a great fan of New Who, I absolutely adored Mr. Capaldi's acting in everything I've seen him in. I actually came to like him in the role of the Doctor, and found him to have elements of my favourite Doctors over the Classic years of the show. So here's wishing Peter Capaldi a happy 65th ..read more

Today is the birthday of Peter Malcolm Gordon Moffett, better known as Peter Davison. Best remembered for his role as the Fifth Doctor in the Doctor Who tv series, Davison is also well-known and lovingly remembered for his role as Tristan Farnon in the BBC television adaptation of James Herriot's All Creatures Great and Small series, but has also appeared in Sink or Swim, A Very Peculiar Practice, Campion, The Last Detective, and Law & Order: UK. I first encountered Peter Davison in 1978 or so with his role as Tristan Farnon in All Creatures Great and Small, and adored the role and t ..read more

Getting Ready for Friday Night Gaming

Today has been a typical early spring day in April here in Ottawa. It's been a somewhat gloomy, relatively warm day here with showers on and off most of the day. April showers bring May flowers, or so they say. The temperature reached around 15oC, but the day has been damp and somewhat cool in feel, making my aches and pains somewhat worse than usual. I've stayed inside much of the day and just took it somewhat easy. Still feeling a bit under the weather, and my right shoulder and arm are hurting a lot. It's been a few weeks since the Friday night gamers played, because of the Easter weekend ..read more

April Fools' Poem

Given that it's April 1st, and we all know what that means, I thought I would share this with you. Jean Wells Rogers, a long-time reader of the "Dear Abby" columns in the newspaper, wrote this wonderful poem for today. Fitting, don't you think? APRIL 1 No one goes hungry All people are fed The oceans are clean Lake Erie's not dead. The Irish aren't fighting The Arabs love Jews The swords are now plowshares Now ain't that good news? The water's delicious The air is so clear On top of a mountain You see to next year. Couples stay married Children are jewels Sure got you going! APRIL FOOLS ..read more

Good Friday Morning

It's Good Friday. The start of the Easter weekend for most folks. I woke up this morning feeling very tired and fatigued and somewhat under the weather, my left foot and ankle hurting somewhat, my right shoulder in a modicum of pain, and my stomach and bowels somewhat out of sorts. Just the continuing story of my life with diabetes, issues with the weather, and the results of the drug administered during the MRI of my abdomen from yesterday. 'Twas not a good night. I don't have any real plans to do much of anything today, to be honest. May try and read a bit, do some work on gaming stuff, or ..read more

It's been another once more atypical day in March here in Ottawa, relatively warm with a few showers on and off most of the day, and a few lovely sunny periods. The temperature has reached around 7oC, but the day has felt damp due to the rainy periods, and has been making my aches and pains somewhat worse than usual. I've stayed inside much of the day and just took it somewhat easy. Still feel a bit under the weather, and my right shoulder and arm are hurting a lot. Normally, this would be the week off gaming with the Friday night group, but since next Friday is Good Friday of the Easter week ..read more
