It’s a busy sporting Sunday with major events in both cricket and tennis (not forgetting the Netball World Cup). But for racing fans there’s only one event on Sunday and that’s the British Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton is chasing a record sixth win in the race, but would he be starting on pole? Final Practice Session The weather was mixed for the final practice session with some light rain early on. That led to teams using intermediate tyres for the first session. The final practice session was a promising one for Ferrari with a 1-2 in the final qualifying session. Charles Leclerc finished 0.026 ..read more

Friday had been another good day for Mercedes and one to forget for Ferrari both on and off the track. Saturday saw final practice and qualifying take place as teams continued their bid to somehow break the Mercedes stranglehold on the title race. Final Practice It was another Mercedes 1-2 in the final practice session. Valtteri Bottas finished 0.041 seconds ahead of Lewis Hamilton. Ferrari had to be content with third and fourth with Charles Leclerc 0.028 seconds ahead of Sebastian Vettel. The problem for Ferrari was that despite their weekend upgrades, Leclerc was 0.405 second behind the M ..read more

The F1 circus moves onto France this weekend with there still being some hopes that a team other than Mercedes will win the race. Ferrari looked to have achieved that in Canada but again they found a way to not finish first. Or did they?  Friday wasn’t just about practice sessions but Ferrari trying to get rid of that five-second penalty and belatedly win the Canadian Grand Prix. It’s been a sad week for F1 with the death of former world champion Niki Lauda. I remember back in 1976 when it was the final day of the Montreal Olympics. Any other time that would have dominated the sporting news, but it was overshadowed by Lauda’s near-fatal accident in the German Grand Prix. None of us that day thought he’d be back in his Ferrari in six weeks’ time. I’ll write an obituary to Niki next weekend. This weekend it’s the Monaco Grand Prix, a race Mercedes last won in 2016. Can their domination of this season’s title races be continued on this legendary street circuit? T ..read more

Bottas will start on pole for the third time this season. Final Practice After the success his team-mate had yesterday, it was Lewis Hamilton who was fastest in final practice. He finished 0.531 seconds ahead of the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc as Mercedes again showed their superiority over the Italian team. Bottas was third fastest just 0.024 seconds behind Leclerc. It wasn’t the smoothest of sessions for him though. Earlier in the session he’d caused ..read more

Friday and Saturday seem to be telling the same story a great deal at the moment. Ferrari do well in practice and look to be faster than Mercedes, who then pull out all the stops in qualifying. That happened again in Azerbaijan as Mercedes took 1-2 in qualifying and it’s Valtteri Bottas who will start on pole. Final Practice The day got off to a good start for Charles Leclerc as he finished fastest in the final practice session. He was 0.198 seconds ahead of team-mate Sebastian Vettel. Leclerc and Vettel were over a second ahead of the rest of the field. Third fastest was Max Verstappen with t ..read more
