At first glance, you may not realize that this bra top + panty set is the Odessa! One of several free PDF patterns, the Odessa has to potential for many variations and we had a fun time with this one! It may seem like a lot of changes, but it’s not! Just a few easy steps, shown below, and no pattern alterations. YAY! Instead of cutting 2 of the Center Front Bodice (pattern piece #1), cut 1 on the fold. What fabric you use will depend on what you want the finished garment to look like. For this example, it is 3 layers – 1 layer of gingham printed lycra (on bottom) and 2 layers of baby blue str ..read more

TUTORIAL: 9779 Top Variation
Madalynne
by Maddie Kulig
10M ago
If you have been following Madalynne for previous pattern releases, then you will know that variations are kinda our thing. As soon as a pattern is released, I begin thinking about hacks to change up some aspect of the design or fit. And I blame you… yes, YOU for inspiring them! One of the many things I love about the sewing community is seeing different takes on one pattern. One sewist makes a jumpsuit out of a velvet for a glam look and another makes the same jumpsuit out of a linen for a beach, dress down look.  When the Madalynne X Simplicity 9779 was released in May, a top version w ..read more

Farm to Table 2023
Madalynne

This weekend, 12 sewists traveling from Illinois to Delaware, Pennsylvania and beyond attended Madalynne’s 5th sewing retreat at a private lodge on the Eastern shore of Maryland. Hosted by Bijou Handmade Studios, the students made Madalynne’s newest pattern with Simplicity, the S9779 over the course of three days. Sewing wasn’t all we did. We also made time for stopping by the local farmers market, a group sushi dinner, a barbecue, a campfire, a trip to an amazing and award-winning winery and a photo shoot at a flower farm. To say that I am floored by the work the student’s accomplished would ..read more

The Galina Monowire bra is available up to a 56” full bust, but what does it actually look like on someone who has a 50”+ full bust? Meet Chelsea, a lovely gal who attended Madalynne’s Top Drawer Lingerie Retreat and is wearing the Galina that she made. Depending on the time of the month, she measures between 51-53” full bust and 45” underbust. She wears a size 44 G/H in the Galina. Chelsea has struggled to find a size inclusive bra and loves the fit of her Galina. While filming this reel, she commented how comfortable the monowire feels. As you can see, the monowire is sitting on her breast ..read more

Tutorial: S8229 + Lawren Mashup
Madalynne
by Maddie Kulig

The Madalynne X Simplicity 8229 and I have a special bond. It was my first “real” pattern, and a pattern that many people first sew when they start making lingerie. It’s a basic underwire bra that has a lot of possibility in terms of variations. My favorite variation, until this one, was this 8229 iteration of the popular CUUP bra. During fall and especially winter, I turn to bodysuits to keep me warm. This Floridian (I grew up in Ft. Lauderdale) still has a hard time staying warm when the temperatures drop below 80. Yes, I said 80 degrees. Ya girl likes to be hoottttt. Always thinking of the ..read more

4 Quick Tips for Sewing Delicate Fabrics
Madalynne

Does sewing fine, delicate fabrics like galloon or embroidered tulle laces give you the heebie jeebies? It shouldn’t. With the right tools and materials, it can be easy. “What if I mess up?“, “What if the feed dogs eat the fabric and it gets sucked it”, “What if I ruin the fabric.” These could be the thoughts going through your head. My rebuttal: what if you sew a beautiful seam with sheer lace and make something is beautiful and you never want to take off? There is a new Galina featuring unlined bra cups and panty. It uses a burgundy stretch galloon lace paired with black trimmings – gorgeou ..read more

Lawren Teddy + Panty Tutorial
Madalynne
by Maddie Kulig

Turn the he Lawren bodysuit into a teddy + panty set. Released two years about in the height of the pandemic, the Lawren became a TNT pattern. It has seen many iterations – a low cut version, a crop top + panty, swimsuits – and now, it has been hacked into a teddy + panty set. So darn cute! What I love most about this variation is that you can wear it as lingerie or pair it with jeans or a skirt and wear it as a top. There are o pattern alterations – just the addition of sewing a shirred rectangular to the bodice. This tutorial gives very simplified steps and assumes that you have basic bra ma ..read more
