I have been collecting dolls now since the 1990’s although I already had a few before that. I collect several types including dolls from the 1960s, the type I played with as a child. In fact I still have my first baby doll and several of my other old dolls including a Sindy from 1963 or 64.

Today we have a Friday Boy, Ken’s little brother Tommy. Instead of featuring just one I decided to show Naomi’s collection. I think she may have a couple more since these photos were taken.
Tommy has the same body as Kelly. The original one, in the striped T Shirt had a “pudding basin” haircut. I think that the first time he appeared was with Doctor Ken as his “little patient” in 1998.
Naomi bought a few Tommy’s over the years and you can see slight differences in their hairstyles. Some are a bit longer, some have a side part. He also got outfits that matched Ken the way that Kelly ..read more

Well, a belated Happy Birthday from me because I was out all day yesterday. It seems hardly any time has passed since we celebrated Barbie’s 60th on 9 March 2019.
She certainly doesn’t look ready for the old age pension, does she?
Here is a link to the 65th Anniversary Barbie dolls. I prefer the brunette but don’t know if I’ll get one as she is a bit pricey for me.

If you would like to go to a doll show and you live or can get to Bellevue, Washington read this post from Chelly.
I love going to doll shows. I was planning to go to one in South Australia next month but unfortunately it was cancelled. Doll shows are great, not only because you can see and buy dolls and accessories but because you meet people who don’t think you are crazy to be a doll collector. They are the same kind of crazy.

Our Friday Guy today is a Ken from the 180 crates and I am not sure which one he is. He has the 1968, straight arm body, marked Made in Indonesia and the 1991 head. I think that he is a beach doll because the Ken’s of that era mostly had the new bent arms except for the beach Kens. I have looked at three dolls from the early 1990s, Glitter Beach Ken, Tropical Splash Ken and Sun Jewel Ken. My best guess is Sun Jewel Ken because it looks like his eyes are more of a blue green than the other two. If anyone can confirm that or identify him positively, I’d be grateful and will alter the post ac ..read more

This week Fashion Doll Friday is a bit cobbled together. Naomi’s little dog Toby is very unwell and there have been a couple of vet trips this week. Toby is a senior dog with multiple health issues and we know that he hasn’t got long now. We are trying to give him a good week while he is still alert and interested in his surroundings. Then we will be saying goodbye.
So, rather than spend time finding a doll to photograph I decided to recycle an older post from 2014 featuring Casey, adding some other photos I already had and including Twiggy as a comparison.
This week’s doll is one of Barb ..read more

Today I am sharing more of the paper dolls Naomi has been printing in A4 size. This time we will look at Campus Queens. I think this probably refers to High School students rather than college girls but we have a different culture and terminology in Australia so forgive me if I am wrong.
If you would like to buy reproduction paper dolls these sets are all available online either as laser cut reproductions or downloadable pdf files. I have seen some disc compilations too. If you live outside the USA be aware that postage is excessive. It’s about $A35 to Australia. That’s why we don’t buy the re ..read more

As I forgot to do my usual Valentine’s Day post Fashion Doll Friday is all about couples today. I haven’t taken any new couples’ photos for a while. I should because there have been some changes in who is paired with who. I’ll add it to my list of projects

Our Friday Guy today came from the 180 crates and I honestly can’t remember if I have featured him before. I did do a quick check of past posts but I may have missed him.
Anyway, as you can see from his angular jaw, he is a Disney doll. He is marked Disney on the back of his neck but has the standard late 1990s Ken body. He is of course Captain John Smith from the Pocohontas series.
I quickly washed his hair before taking these photos because it was a bit rough. It was still damp when I photographed him but I think this look suits him. His outfit is one of those dreadful one-piece tuxedos ..read more

Here is another post from my friend Marilyn who is recently donated most of her doll collection to a museum. Marilyn has posted photos of the dolls on her blog and I recommend checking them out while you are there.
This post of Marilyn’s was written some months ago and she talks about her reasons for rehoming the dolls, something I have touched on here in the past. She also talks about what dolls mean to her.
You will be glad to know that Garry, Marilyn’s husband’s cochlear implants have been a success but now Marilyn herself is in hospital with heart problems. Please keep her in your thoughts ..read more
