The Letter Of The Flaw
Cake Wrecks

Someone on Reddit discovered there's more than one way to interpret "sprinkles on the side." Ha! (One of the few times when the wrecked version actually required more effort.) Dae's local bakery offers number-shaped donuts for birthdays, so she ordered "20 number 6 donuts with pink icing and sprinkles." Oooh. SO CLOSE. Cory S. asked for a cake that was half white, half chocolate, but made the mistake of not specifying WHICH half:   Er... I feel ya, Jean-Luc. And finally, Lindsay A. was very clear when she ordered these two cookies cakes: "Happy Birthday Jessica" on one, and on t ..read more

Hi, I'm here to pick up a cake? It's the "Happy Birthday Brittany" one. Ah, no, see, that second "Birthday" should be "Brittany."  No no, this has Brittany twice. I need "Happy Birthday" on it. Ok, now you've just combined them into one word. There should be three.  You don't mind if I bang my head on this counter here, do you?  Look, forget the name. Could you just give me a cake that says "Happy Birthday," with sprinkles on it? Yes? Great. Thanks. [Later] Thanks to Anony M., Bethany C., Angela A., Margo R., Brian R., & Kasha D.  for the dental training. (Becaus ..read more

SHOT THROUGH THE HEART [knowing smirk] And you're to blame!   Wreckers, you give love A BAD NAME.   How did this start?   They look all the same! You give love a bad name (bad name!)   You give love... A BAD NAME.   Thanks to Anony M., Elizabeth, K.J., Jodee, Christy R., Anony M., Shari A., & Amy O., who really needs to explain those last wedding toppers to me. Are the two bucks supposed to be Robert & Stevie? And if so, why are they next to a hunter with a shotgun? ("Aw, look, your wedding avatars are about to be killed! SO SWEET.") Or maybe the hunter ..read more

Strange times, minions. STRANGE TIMES. You know what else is strange? ::gestures helplessly:: Whatever is happening here. I mean, I see a lot of cake faces, but this? This is one in a melon. HEEEEEEEEEYO ***** Jay asked for a "blue frosted carrot cake," but I guess the baker left off the last word and tried to make a blue carrot instead.  And that's when stuff REALLY got weird: I have so many questions. Is it a hat? A mountain? A chilly mammogram office? (BahahahhahahaaaWHAT) (Also "OW") ***** Then there's the exploding... soccer field?... surrounded by Spider-Men: Or it's a pile of ..read more

Sunday Sweets Is All About April
Cake Wrecks

Usually I like a good continuous theme for Sweets, but this week I decided to change it up by celebrating a bunch of super specific, super obscure April holidays. So hey, Happy Mathematics and Statistics Awareness Month! (Emilee Kirven) Sum cakes have it where it counts. (That's a little math humor for you. Yes I'll stop now.) April is also the official month for Global Astronomy: (Sweet For Joy, Russia) ... Jazz Appreciation: (Spring Bloom Cakes, Ontario ... and humor! There are a lot of cakey options for celebrating humor, but since I'm not looking for wrecks, this is the one that imm ..read more

In case you ever wondered what Ron Swanson would look like as a balding muppet: "You may have thought you heard me say I would like a lot of cake and ice cream. But what I said was, give me ALL THE CAKE AND ICE CREAM YOU HAVE. "Please and thank you."   Shannon ordered a "red cake with sprinkles" with "Happy 30th Birthday Fred" on it. And, you know, technically the bakery got a lot of that right: See the red sprinkles?   Not really sure what's happening here: I *think* it's supposed to be a skirt/dress, but all I see is an overflowing science fair experiment. You know, li ..read more

It's "Take A Wild Guess Day," minions, and I've got a real humdinger of a round lined up for you, mwuahahaaa. Let's start with an easy one: I know, I'm surprised bakers would make something so controversial, too. Not to mention take such obvious political pot-shots with their cupcake cakes (patooie!): Eeesh. That's a bold stance. Once you know what this next one is supposed to be, it actually makes very little sense: How are those wild guesses coming, by the way? I'll list the answers I have at the bottom. "Papa" here is just begging for a back story: And while you're at it, please gi ..read more

You'll never guess what kind of party this cake was for. NEVER. Unless maybe you can read.   Eric A. reports that someone is taking a bite INTO crime at his local grocery store: And I shouldn't be finding this quite so funny, should I. (Hey, we've all been there, random drive-by cake eater. We've all been there.)   Think Big Bakery doesn't read this blog? WELL THEY DO. Proof: they've finally agreed with me that most bakers can't even pipe a simple balloon, and have started providing plastic ones instead. But don't you worry, guys: where there's a wreck ..read more

For today's wrecky giggles, minions... WE HAVE TO GO BACK. "BACK" ...to the Easter.   Back when Vicky asked for a chocolate egg with a dog's paw on it. Heavy.   Back when Leslie asked for a simple "He Has Risen." “Rizind?”   And most importantly, back to the moment before this candy mold was created: ...so we can have a serious discussion.   Thanks to Christine E., Vicky C., Leslie S., & Katie C. for rooting for Cake Wrecks. ***** If you don't own the Back to the Future trilogy yet then you should. Remember when you were an angsty teen in some TERRIBLE mood, but then you'd put on your headphones, crank the volume, and get lost in your favorite songs? I remember doing that with my Dad's old CD walkman, and I bet it's how a lot us learned to really love music: to put the whole world on pause, close our eyes, and get lost in the sounds. So today, we're celebrating music: (Sweet Love Cake Couture, Australia) And we're celebrating music's favorite dance partner, love: (Pirate Catering, California) 'Cuz these two go together like rock n' roll. Or like these guitar and saxophone weddin ..read more
