Hey! It’s been a while, hasn’t it! Well, to be honest, I have wanted to write a post for some time but the words wouldn’t come. Everything since February has been pretty, well shit, really. Living with anxiety has been something I have coped with for a good long while, but something about watching coronavirus unfolding around us made it ramp up to one million per cent. Now, I’m not going to write a big post about woe is me with corona, because we’re all suffering in some way shape or form, but I just wanted to talk a little bit about homeschooling. Those of you with children will now be well a ..read more

Long time no see! Well, I’ve decided I’d do a little update about the Mumsy Midwife life post lockdown. A little change is on the cards as my blog turned 5 in July. 5 years seems crazy; I honestly never thought my blog would last half a decade. But then Covid happened. I found it particularly hard to write for my blog during lockdown, it felt like my mind was too distracted and my day job was full-on. But now I’m back with a new focus! My ultimate dream is to be a published author and I have written a book. A whole novel. Yep all 82,000 words. This has been a new focus for me and one that I am ..read more

You may remember that earlier in the year I was challenged to save all my single-use plastics for a week to put into perspective quite how much is sent to landfill every week, month and year. Well, I have been asked this time to make a change in 60 seconds to show how easy it is to make a difference, even when you’re short on time. So what did I do? I wracked my brains to work out what I could do that I could continue after the challenge had ended. In Warwickshire, we don’t have a very good recycling programme. When I lived in Coventry (my home town) it was brilliant, you had one big blue whee ..read more

There are so many things that children add to your life, but sleep definitely isn’t one of them. Exhaustion is a common feeling for most parents of little ones, and when you layer in work, other caring responsibilities, trying to be a good friend and keep on top of chores in the home, it’s little wonder that you have a recipe for burnout.  The Modern Condition Modern parenting is a unique combination of quite stressful circumstances. It’s quite usual now for both parents to work outside of the home, perhaps with a long commute on top and then spreading themselves thin with the pressure to prov ..read more

Being a midwife is really hard on my feet. I can sometimes spend upwards of 13 hours a day on my pegs, pacing the wards or working in clinics. Therefore it doesn’t come as a surprise that I need to have good shoes. When Vionic asked if I would like to review a pair of their Pro range, I bit their hands off and I couldn’t wait for them to arrive. First things first, I thought I would talk about the rules around what shoes are suitable in a clinical environment. Firstly they need to closed-toe, so no sandals or holey Crocs. Secondly, they need to be fully cleanable, canvas pumps just won’t fit t ..read more
