The best location for your pet photography session when you have an active dog

Your dog is a living pogo-stick, and you know that if you could harness their energy you'd be able to power a small town or sell it as an energy drink and make a fortune. Unfortunately, it can't be done. You were thrilled to find out that dogs don't need to be well behaved for their photoshoot, not because your dog is bad, but just because they don't know how to sit still for more than a nano-second. So, where can we go with a dog like that? The answer, anywhere. BUT my favourite place, is somewhere they can really RUN, and be themselves. We can keep them on a long line if we need, but when yo ..read more

Kokoda

In 2011, I brought home a teeny little pup. He was quiet when I chose him. That didn't last! He was an adventurer at heart. Always up for it and always ready. Hiking, swimming, kayaking. Hunting geckos, chasing fish. He was busy, and he was perfect. Unfortunately his zest for life took a toll. Those of you who have been following me for some time know about Kokoda’s diagnosis. 4 years ago, just before his 7th birthday Koda was diagnosed with heart failure - a devastating and unfortunately prevalent disease within cavaliers. There's no cure, only the hope of slowing the progression. Once his me ..read more

Junior's Session in his favourite Park!

I met Junior and his people late last year at one of their local parks. Unfortunately he had just been diagnosed with an incurable heart condition, and his life expectancy is unknown, so they really wanted to capture some photos of their brave boy. Having gone through the same with Kokoda, I knew EXACTLY how they were feeling: shocked, scared and wanting to make whatever time it was they had left with him ABSOLUTELY incredible. Junior himself has no clue about his diagnosis, and was more than happy to enjoy the sunshine with his people and do a few zoomie laps! He is SO loved, and I don’t thin ..read more

Ginger's session at Old Petrie Town

Ginger’s owner was given a gift certificate for a session with me. Ginger is getting on in age and is a little slower these days, so we spent the afternoon strolling around Old Petrie Town enjoying the beautiful weather and stopping here and there for some portraits. Old Petrie Town is one of my favourite locations for a session due to all the different backgrounds. We were extra lucky to be shooting during bougainvillea blooming season! I always tell owners to bring along a few of their pets’ favourite treats, and in 4 years, she is the first to have brought along a container of carrot slice ..read more

While I am a pet photographer, I am dedicated to capturing all the love, sunshine and adventure of a life filled with fur, and YES! that includes the people too! Too often the answer is “no” when I ask whether any people will be joining in for any images. I usually try and persuade people into at least one or two because what’s the worst that can happen? You don’t like the resulting images. That's it. But the best that could happen- you end up with a gorgeous keepsake. So when I was told the WHOLE family was joining in on Oakey the Corgi's session, I was ecstatic. Their family chose to shoot a ..read more

Everyone loved seeing the last blog with a few of my recent image transformations, so I thought I'd share a few more. This is not only fun, and one of my favourite things, but it's a great way to show you that these dogs are all just regular dogs like yours - no obedience superstars or models. They are on leads, they aren't perfect at sitting and staying, and we can still get gorgeous images from their session. So click across to see how each image started! Still don't think we'd be able to get photos like this of your dog? Please send me a video of how crazy they are, because I bet we can ..read more

Zali + Asti

Both Zali and Asti are Smooth-coated Griffon Bruxellois (also known as Brussels Griffons) which is not a breed you see very often! So I was thrilled to have them both in front of my camera. Despite being the same breed, they have quite different personalities. Asti outgoing and exploring everything, Zali simply following along with us, no desire to leave her people. We met at one of my favourite locations - Old Petrie Town - and we had the perfect weather for it. We started our session at the railway. Then moved along to the sheds for some portraits of each dog. As we were walking along Zali ..read more
