A lot of people liked seeing the 31 year old lesson horse I ride (https://www.reddit.com/r/Equestrian/s/goTKAayeoZ) and I actually got some clips of us moving today!
This was our first day working on ground poles and also like 45 minutes into a 60 minute lesson so please do not perceive my lower leg ??

So yesterday I took my first ever horseback riding lesson at 25. I was approaching this casually and also in a therapeutic way to be with horses.
I don’t have experience around horses other than riding a horse once for an easy tourist trail ride. One other student was in my lesson. They had been to this barn before and had years experience riding when younger.
We were indoors and it was going okay - I’m on the horse and it’s walking, and I’m steering it. Then after a while she tells us how to make it “jog” which feels like a slow bouncy trot. That felt ok once getting settled.
Then she tells ..read more

Hi everyone! I'm a beginner rider taking lessons twice monthly for about 8 months now. I'm experiencing difficulty with the lesson horses standing for me when I get on the mounting block. Sometimes they'll back up, or step away to where I cannot get on, or refuse to approach the mounting block all together. It's most of the horses not just one, so I'm well aware that this is a ME issue.
The behavior usually stops once my trainer approaches to help. She tells me that I "need to be the leader" but never really explains what she means or what I could be doing differently. I am admittedly

Hey everyone! I'm a student trying to get into the Albertan Amatuer Rodeo competitions. I've already signed up a school on Saddle Bronc riding but I now have a new problem where I have absolutely no idea where to get the required equipment.
So my question is does anyone here know where I can, preferably rent, but can buy a roughstock saddle. Along with some spurs and chaps. Also how do I size myself for a roughstock saddle? In the Calgary area is preferred! Also I wear precription glasses and was wondering if anyone had any work arounds for that. Thank you so much and I appreciate any help! O ..read more

Looking for recommendations for high waisted and ultra grippy silicone full seat breeches. The stickier the better lol!
In search of brands that don’t gape in the waist (for reference I am a 25”W and 38” hip so this is a bit of a struggle)
Generally, I like the fit of FreeRide breeches but I don’t find that the silicone stays super grippy (has worn out after 6 months of wear). I also enjoy the fit of Animo breeches, but it’s difficult to find these in my size at many online retailers.
Was considering ordering the Pikeur New Candela breeches from Equishop (but unsure of fit and level of grip ..read more

Can you suggest me (15f) some exercises for training while I can’t practice with my horse? I will be away for two weeks, but I’d like to stay fit. We usually trot, gallop and do some small jumps. I’m also trying to play polo. Thank you
