What: Surprise! I’m blogging again. I wanted to write something grandiose to pick up where I left off, but honestly, sometimes just getting the words on the page is what matters, at least for a writer. Over the past few years, I’ve had a lot of living to do and my thought process turned from blogging to navigating real-life problems and a few of them got the best of me. At first, I told myself I had writer’s block; but deep down, I knew l was just tired. Not of the “Shireen’s Favorite Things” narrative, per se, but from all the noise around me: a raging pandemic, my mother’s battle wit ..read more

What: I know, I know, it’s been awhile. My last blog entry was right before the world came to a grinding halt because of Covid-19. I couldn’t rationalize the importance of fashion trends and foodie hotspots when there was so much pain, suffering and death. Like most people, the pandemic really took hold of me. Not only was I worried about my own health (as I have a neurological autoimmune disease,) I was fearful for my family, friends, co-workers and community. So, I left the blogosphere to concentrate on keeping myself safe among other things… Like the break-up of my six year relationship th ..read more

What: Inside the most glamorous holiday party in South Florida: The Black Tie Ball — the official kick-off to the Winterfest Boat Parade. Why: Showcasing the “Aladdin” theme of The Black Tie Ball and getting a look inside the new Guitar Hotel. I love being the hostess of this yearly event, but this time, it was even better, with help from my co-worker and good friend, Jeff Lennox. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and here’s to a magnificent 2020! And, yes, I’m blogging less, but I’m also living more.  Cheers! https://winterfestparade.com/ Wh ..read more

Pilates: A Story of Healing & Reinvention

What: When I think back on my illness, getting sick was the easy part, everything that came after was, well, devastating – there’s no other way to put it. It was emotionally heartbreaking & physically debilitating; add those two things together and life-altering is what I was left with. 9-years later, the tears still fall freely when processing all I’ve been through. I’m not sure I’ll ever make sense of it, but I do know there have been some great people along the way who’ve helped me fight the good fight and one of them is my beloved Pilates teacher, Gretchen Wagoner. Why: When I ..read more

“We’ll always have Paris”…

What: Capturing love and romance in “The City of Light,” thanks to #TheParisPhotographer & #TACoutureMiami. Why: I know I promised this blog last week, but I’ve retreated from writing lately and instead, have been busy living. Paris will do that to a person. When you’re there, she wraps her arms ever so gently around you, leans in and whispers: “Vivre l’instant présent.” It’s a message that lingers long after you leave her and finding your normal footing afterward seems next to impossible, but alas, here I am trying. I’ve been to Paris before, but not with someone I truly loved and m ..read more

What: A romantic Friday night dinner at one of the best new restaurants in downtown Miami: Mirabelle By George B. — a French eatery where la présentation est magnifique and the food is au-delà de délicieux. Why: If you put everything I loved in a room: fresh hydrangeas, beautiful paintings, Wedgwood vases, blue and white tiled floors, soft lighting, classy music and to-die-for scallops — I’d never want to leave, which is exactly how I felt last Friday night when dining at Mirabelle By George B. The French eatery, which has been open a ..read more
