I recently decided to use some “new” epoxy resin that I bought 2 years ago; Megapoxy HX. First thing was to ensure that my air compressor and pressure pot still worked. Pressurized the pot and left it overnight; vey pleased that it was still holding the pressure: Initial attempt was to ensure that the resin […] The post Resin Casting Experiment – Seam Rippers appeared first on Gary @ Hugo's Woodshop ..read more

I have been batching some wooden train sets out recently. After the initial cutting and drilling is some then the pieces are something that I can glue up in pieces when I have some free time.   I think I may have bought more parts than I need:   I am trying to standardise on 2 basic styles; one all wood and the other with hooks. The all wood one is a lot more work to […] The post Wooden trains anyone? appeared first on Gary @ Hugo's Woodshop ..read more

Dyed Stabilised Pen Blanks – interesting results

I bought these blanks over a year ago on Facebook, the first photo is the sale photo and next to it the actual receipt     I do like the labels; it is a small thing but so helpful later on.  They are stabilised which means soaked in resin and then baked in an oven to cure the wood. Dye is mixed in with the resin and can be used multiple times; the top picture from […] The post Dyed Stabilised Pen Blanks – interesting results appeared first on Gary @ Hugo's Woodshop ..read more

Something different – Desk Organisers / Desk Caddies

Something different – Desk Organisers / Desk Caddies Saw this on Instagram and decided that it looked straight forward, a good use of scraps and none for sale in Australia. Used timber I already had based the sizes on my timber. Deciding what holes was a mixture of identifying what forstner drill bits I had and the look, not particularly scientific. I did try and line up with the centers and tries to keep a […] The post Something different – Desk Organisers / Desk Caddies appeared first on Gary @ Hugo's Woodshop ..read more

Shire Woodworking Club – June 2019 Newsletter posted below. The visit by the Australian Prime Minister on his was to vote got a big write-up this month; he is the local federal MP though and has visited the club in the past. The club does well out of elections as the local polling booth is at the school next door; they lost some visibility at the State elections when the school opened the back gate […] The post Shire Woodworking Club – June 2019 Newsletter appeared first on Gary @ Hugo's Woodshop ..read more

I have been a bit busy lately so haven’t recently posted any updated so only found out when I went to post the Shire Woodworking Club’s May newsletter. There was nothing done to my content but a dodgy redirection was added. Luckily I was still able to access the administration console so was able to get Wordfence security application added and then I had to pay to get the site cleaned up. Their report was […] The post My website got hacked – now back and operational. appeared first on Gary @ Hugo's Woodshop ..read more

Workshop Update I have been promising my wife for a while that I would make a replacement cutting board for the kitchen; she finally had enough and threw out the old one!  I ended up making a small cutting board that can also be used as a charcuterie or cheese board. The main timber is american oak which is what we have in our house on the stairs and floorboards so a good match. No idea […] The post Workshop Update – my first chopping board appeared first on Gary @ Hugo's Woodshop ..read more
