How long to receive test results?

So I took my NBCOT exam last Tuesday. I was looking at their score release calendar and it looks like I have to wait another two weeks!? Is that correct?? I have to wait 16 days to find out if I passed!? That seems a little absurd when I paid them over $500 to take the damn test submitted by /u/EstablishmentIcy6859 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I'm looking for UK based OTs or OT students who did or are doing the 2 year masters conversion course instead of the 3 year undergrad. I'm thinking of re-training, but really struggling to find out all the info I need to be confident enough to apply. Anyone happy for me to quiz them? submitted by /u/IVerbYourNoun [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

If you could, what would you rename occupational therapy to?

So I just got the "but I don't have a job any more!" joke for the umpteenth time, and it's make me realize how poorly named our profession is, and how out of touch it is with todays common parlance. So if we were to redo this thing, what do you think a better name would be that would better relate what we do? submitted by /u/killedbyabear [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Any former Rec Therapists here?

I am currently a Rec Therapist but am finding OTs are taking over the field . Has anyone gone from being an RT to an OT? What are you thoughts on becoming a COTA? I don’t think I have it in me to go back and do all of OT school. Would it be worth it ? I am interested in behavioral health, SUD, and anything in pediatric. Advice on best choice here! Hoping for decent pay $60k and I love facilitating small groups and working one to one. No desire to do SNF or senior care. Hey guys, home care OT here. I primarily work with geriatrics and phys dys adults, but I've a couple of heavily disabled kiddos in my caseload too, usually for specialized equipment and home adaptation. I'm not a peds specialist. One kiddo (<10 yrs old) has global developmental delay (I'll omit the Dx). Non-verbal, non-ambulatory, does not understand instructions, visually impaired. He moves A LOT. He is getting too heavy to be transferred in parent's arms and we are transitioning to a lift. Problem is, kiddo moves constantly when we attempt to don the sling. All 4 limbs are moving all ove ..read more

Child Bangs Head/Back Against Chair

I see a child at his pre-school. Multiple times throughout the day, he will walk over to a cushioned couch or chair in the class, sit down, and rhythmically hit his back/head against the back of the chair/couch. I can’t figure out anything that is specifically chasing him deregulation that cause him to do this throughout the day. His teachers are concerned, it sounds like they want to know how to reduce his overstimulation and I think the one teacher doesn’t want him banging his back against the chair at all because she thinks he is hurting his head. Does anyone have any suggestions? I’m very ..read more

I’m curious bec I’m seriously thinking about leaving my snf job to home care because it’s more flexible and it pays more. There’s an earning cap where I work and I’m honestly exhausted with my DOR and ADOR and all the cooperate bullshit it’s just getting worse. Is west coast MSOT worth it ?

I am excited to share that I have been accepted to West Coast University to pursue a master's degree in occupational therapy. However, the tuition fee is quite high, at $93,242. I am planning to take out a loan to cover this cost, but I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through the same process and can share their experiences with me. I am also considering applying to California State University, Dominguez Hills, where the tuition fee is $32,268. However, I have heard that this school is highly competitive, and my chances of being accepted are slim. As I am turning 30 this yea ..read more
