I see a child at his pre-school. Multiple times throughout the day, he will walk over to a cushioned couch or chair in the class, sit down, and rhythmically hit his back/head against the back of the chair/couch. I can’t figure out anything that is specifically chasing him deregulation that cause him to do this throughout the day. His teachers are concerned, it sounds like they want to know how to reduce his overstimulation and I think the one teacher doesn’t want him banging his back against the chair at all because she thinks he is hurting his head. Does anyone have any suggestions? I’m very ..read more

I am excited to share that I have been accepted to West Coast University to pursue a master's degree in occupational therapy. However, the tuition fee is quite high, at $93,242. I am planning to take out a loan to cover this cost, but I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through the same process and can share their experiences with me. I am also considering applying to California State University, Dominguez Hills, where the tuition fee is $32,268. However, I have heard that this school is highly competitive, and my chances of being accepted are slim. As I am turning 30 this yea ..read more

Training advice!

Hey everyone! I am just hitting the year mark with being an OTR/L and tomorrow I’m going to be taking over training of a new employee (who’s also a new grad). I’m in the IPR setting and I’m told that the person struggles with time management during evals and being aware of time in general during sessions. She also apparently struggles with how long it takes her to document/making sure all necessary info is in her notes. Since I’m relatively a new grad myself, does anyone have any tips for how to help with this persons training? She is older than me and has been in the working world for quite ..read more

I am a senior at the University of Washington and have a 3.5 gpa. I have done really well in all of my upper level course work, but my first two years of college I had an ongoing family emergency that really affected my performance in school. I am currently taking anatomy, and my first practical did not go super well but i second guessed myself a lot when i knew the answers so I know the second practical will go much better. My prerequisite gpa for OT should be around a 3.7-3.8 depending on how I do in anatomy. I work about 22 hours a week at a PT clinic as a PT aide, and have 40 hours of sha ..read more

Grad school application advice?

I'm applying to grad schools in the next 2 months for fall 2025. My top picks are Carroll, Elmhurst, North Central, Indiana university at South Bend, and university of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. I have a 3.2 GPA, 50 hours of observation, and a pt internship. I'm wondering what things I can do to strengthen my chances, most universities I've spoken to say that enrollment is currently down, and if thats true should I not be stressed? submitted by /u/mintclovervenus [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Occupational therapy is my passion. I am studying psychology but noticed a lot more people getting their degree in OT. Not sure it’s just because i’m paying more attention now but I am scared I will not be able to find a job in the future after graduating. submitted by /u/Klutzy_Passion_4074 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
