When does hearing come back?

On Tuesday I noticed my one ear felt like I was under water or had just gotten off a plane. I know an audiologist who gave me a Tympanometry and there was no movement. Went to the doctor and got antibiotics and ear drops. Apparently I had an ear infection and throat infection. I’m on day 6 and there has been little change in how my ear feels although I no longer have other signs of an ear infection like a fever or headache, so clearly I’m getting better. Any insight on when I should expect my hearing to go back to normal? The muffled sounds is very annoying lol submitted by /u/Material_Yoghu ..read more

Hi, does anybody have a graph or source showing average hearing test results by age, that goes up to 16,000 Hertz or higher? I have found charts that show the average hearing test by age going up to 8,000, but I'm wondering what it looks like in that higher extended range. Thank you, submitted by /u/Ghoosemosey [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

SLP or audiologist: what should I be asking?

Hi all! I'm studying in Europe to be an SLP, second career. I've been disappointed with my studies and I have been looking for ways to make it more interesting by looking into additional degrees I could do after I graduate. Kind of trying to create my own niche or something along those lines. But then there was a plot twist... Turns out, I can switch to audiology without losing any credit. The two first year of SLP and audiology are the same, so I would just continue on a different path. I didn't know this because the part time curriculum for second career students is only for future SLP's. B ..read more

I have an opportunity to leave the clinic for a tech support role for a manufacturer. While I have been feeling burnt out by the clinic (difficult/ angry patients, poor scheduling and management, etc.), I don’t know much about what this kind of role entails. Has anyone worked in this kind of role, and if so would you recommend or not? submitted by /u/Auds_and_ends [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Private Practice + Interview

I’ve been doing quite a bit of research on the Audiology industry and I’m looking for 7 to 10 private practice owners or partners to interview. Interviews would be 30 minutes, no soft or hard sales pitch whatsoever, and I would be willing to compensate you for your time. If you would be open to this, please comment or DM me — sincere thanks! submitted by /u/akaBeatrixKiddo [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I currently study at uni for Audiology Bsc, first year and the more I've learnt about the role of an Audiologist the more I see it just being a long winded and more expensive way of being a hearing aid dispenser. It seems like when looking for job roles, all people care about is are you hcpc registered as a HAD. There seems to be nothing special about 3 years of Audiology (SCHOOL FEES) Vs two years of Hearing aid dispenser (PAID APPRENTICESHIP).. I've tried looking for the difference to see if one gives better opportunities than the other, but am I going crazy that it seems like ones alot mor ..read more

Purchasing a home with a Physicians Loan

My wife is an audiologist and we are moving to another state. Her sister, an optometrist, purchased a home with a physicians loan. She purchased pre-pandemic and iirc, she put somewhere around 5% down. However, just with brief google searches, I don't see audiology listed on any of the banks websites. I do see optometry though. Does anyone here have experience with this type of loan, and if you do, what lender did you use? submitted by /u/214_Buff_Horses [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Low frequency noise

My wife snores and I’ve tried many remedies to block the low frequency noise associated with snoring. I’m amazed at how snoring is still audible through many (most) earplugs. Surely there must be a decent solution to such a common problem I’ve had some luck with noise cancelling headphones but they are bulky and hard to sleep in. I’m currently using soft earplugs with over ear headphones playing brown noise. However it’s not a perfect solution for a number of reasons I’m interested to hear from those either more knowledge on this subject as I’m at my whits end. submitted by /u/desmofan900 [v ..read more
